Documented differences between the TV show and the comic book

For those who have seen the TV show and wonder what are differences between the two versions of the series,
Tokyopop is currently releasing translated issues every two months and now there's only one volume left.
I've compiled a list of major differences from the comic, as you may know Grenadier started life as a comic book(or manga), so if you have seen the TV show first, there's probably a few changes that the animators made which are either large, or sometimes small.

Overall, the story is roughly the same(for a ecchi and fanservice comic book, that is).

(Warning: Spoilers are scattered all over the topic)

First off...

Main characters:

Rushuna Tendo

In the comic book: While Rushuna's retains most of the playfullness, the whole "make-the-enemy-lose-their-will-to-fight" attitude(which, quite honestly, is a blantant rip-off of Trigun) is entirely absent in the comic. She might give a few words of advice here and there, but for the most part she's an expert in combat, but she's quite clumsy, goofy and sometimes has the tendency to say the most moronic things, even in the most serious situations.
Think of her as a female version of Goku, instead of a female version of Vash.
Combat-wise, loss of clothing during combat does not bother her as much she even fights fully naked against the Iron Baron early on in the ladies bahtroom.
Sometimes she's so into combat that after she's done, she rarely notices that she doesn't have any underwear or her no pants(much to the delight of soldiers nearby), unless someboy alerts her, which sometimes just ends up being a little too late. Two situations are seen in the comic, one has Rushuna standing up to the crook who wanted to destroy the Peach Blossom(the only who also murdered Mikan's parents), the guy had been knocked down however from his point of view, he could perfectly see Rushuna "below the waist", not that he minded.
Mikuna brings this to Rushuna's attention, but a little too late.
Wardrobe malfunctions aside, she uses roughly the same suit up until volume 4, after their deadly encounter with Rushuna's double.
One important thing: in the comic, Tenshi, her master in the anime, does not appear and she's not even mentioned.
Rushuna's master is a blind old man who finally appears in the 6th volume of the comic and has a job as a street merchant ripping people off with overpriced meals.
It's also mentioned that Soun(Rushuna's master) is sort-of her surrogate father and it's also revealed that he was the founder of the imperial Juttensen and the Iron Baron knows him(probably an Obi-wan/Darth Vader thing going on there).
As I haven't read the last volume(since it's not out yet), he asks about him returning the power to her.
Also, Rushuna has an older sister in the comic, which is the same character she confronts at the end of the TV show, but here she confronts her twice, the first time happens in the mountains where the trio barely escapes with their life and their final showdown is in the moving fortress/battleship. Another noticable difference, in the comic, Rushuna's sister was disfigured by a bear when they were young, she wears a face mask that covers her other disfigured half(Two-Face anyone?), her full face is shown(and it ain't pretty to look at) in their final confrontation.
She also appears to have an unspecified connection to the Iron Baron.

Yajiro Kojima

Not much different from his anime counterpart, much of his backstory remains the same, including his first encounter with Rushuna and his memories of her lost companions. In their travels, he's sometimes himself in a few awkward situations and he often feels bewildered by Rushuna's comments.
And unlike the TV show, she is not remotely confortable with him watching her take a bath and not even inviting him, simply put she doesn't feel confortable naked next to him. In the first volume, for example, Rushuna opens fire at him for trying to peak into the ladies bathtub(apart from that Rushuna is never seen taking a bath, which was made into a running gag in the TV show). Though in the next volumes she becomes far more confortable around him(prompting often awkward, but funny situations) even to a point where she later buys a more revealing outfit just to please him.
He also becomes quite popular among the girls in the Peach Blossom when he saves the building from being destroyed by slicing a missile in half.
When the capital city is attacked, he confronts a large man with a giant sword powered by some sort of engine. He also confronts a character who is never seen in the TV show, which is apparently his brother, but from what I understand he was close to his sister(a deceased travelling companion, who happens to be one of the villains in the TV show, but in the comic only appears in flashbacks), hence they were sorta-of brothers. This flashback is also important, because it explains why Yajiro cannot bear the loss of another woman in his life.
And contrary to the TV show, the Iron Baron is not related in any way to Yajiro.

Mikuna Kurnai

Also not very different from her cartoon counterpart, the story in the Peach Blossom is pretty much the same, personality-wise she is a tad more mature.
Many times she's at odds with Yajiro arguing over just about anything.
Mikan is also a bit protective of Rushuna, particularly in one scene where Rushuna loses all her clothes in an underwater fight with a Juttensen(this particular imperial guard has a larger role in the comic), Mikan pretty much kicks him out of out the boat for just staring at Rushuna after begging him to look away.
Has the same arsenal of baloons, except the breast suit, which she never actually uses in the comic, apart on those cutaways pages that are featured at the end of each volume. In one of those volumes, one cutaway sequence involves playing a prank on Yajiro, by putting him in the breast suit and adding make-up. On those same cutaways, she also has a deep fascination for Rushuna's breasts, seeking advice at to how she could've grown them so big(this scene is particulary funny, since the girls are talking about such an intimate subject in the middle of the road, making travellers stare in awe, while Yajiro grunts at the scene they're making).
In another cutaway scene she does actually use the breast suit to impress Rushuna, however Yajiro quickly points out that she's using a baloon, but his remark falls on deft ears.
But I like I said, Mikan never actually uses the suit during the actual comic book storyline.
After the trio arrives at the capital city, she falls madly in love with a member of the Juttensen, who doesn't appear in the TV show, but confronts Rushuna in the comic. This character Juza is apparently so handsome that every girl falls in love with him, hence why he wears a mask, a teddy bear mask.
Her guardian at the Peach Blossom is also absent near the end of the comic, instead her sister's guardian, the leader of the Juttensen, is present, using a similar staff attack.
For such an important character, she pretty much vanishes after the 5th volume, only to be seen in a small cameo piggyback riding on Juza, near the end of the 6th volume.

That's all I got right now. More soon.

Update: 11/04/2008: More stuff about Rushuna added.

Wow, very nice comparison! I have seen some of the cartoon and it's quite entertaining. They could have easily gone full "hentai" but instead they left it light-hearted and fun while maintaining the sexiness. Now I am curious to read the comic books, thanks to your summary.
