Monumental miscasting

The actor Danny Webb, who played Hpt. Haans in some kind of communications/signals room that passed orders back/forth, could have been a very realistic Maj. Otto Remer. Much more than Kretschmann.

actor Danny Webb: www.google.com/search?q=danny+webb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ClcBElkeahUKEwiN58OYpKflAhWLaz4KHXTkBlw&biw=1280&bih=651

Maj. O. Remer: www.google.com/search?q=otto+remer&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAgQ_AVoAmoVChMlqo-FxlenyAlVghY-Ch3vXglB&biw=1280&bih=651

The actor Webb looks to have had enough acting history to handle the larger amount of dialogue the Remer character had.

May have had to darken his hair, at least to look younger.

OK.

Substantial, then.

Either actor could do the character. Might as well choose the one who can actually pass for the historical person being portrayed.

But did you have any idea what Remer actually looked like?

But did you not read my first post here? Go back, try again.

You must hate most biographical films.

No such thing follows from anything I wrote here. Sad attempt at straw man argument.

You flunked the entrance examinations to kindergarten, didn't you?

^^^ typical response of someone who gets pwned on IMDB boards.

Admittedly, you set yourself up for such things.

You still didn't answer my question. Did you not read my first post and see the link to pictures of Remer?

Oh dear. When your testicles descend, get back to me.

When your period ends and you change your soiled sanitary napkin, get back to answering my original question: Did you not read my first post and see the link to pictures of Remer?

Did you really just use the word pwned?

Meaning what? What are you implying? Speaking of knutsack, grow some and say what you really mean/think, instead of alluding to it.

I guess personally I don't think of it as a monumental miscasting. Neither role was huge, and I thought Thomas Kretschmann did a good job. He had such a "I'm so over this" attitude that changed pretty quickly to seriousness when he was actually called on duty. I actually remembered his performance, as opposed to most minor characters like that in films.

reply

Yeah. On second thought, it doesn't seem so monumental. And agreed on Kretschmann's performance. He did real well and was memorable. Ole Tom Cruise looked like Stauffenberg from certain angles. Terrence Stamp certainly had a strong resemblance to Beck, at least at that point in Stamp's life.

reply

Webb does bear a resemblance to Remer, or at least more than Kretschmann does.

But I think it was about mannerisms and general appearance more than facial resemblance. Remer is portrayed as a strong Wehrmacht commander who's loyal to the chain of command and the party, but is tired of being screwed around with endless drills and false alarms. Webb could probably have pulled it off, but Kretschmann (rugged, stoic and ever-so-German) had it down to a tee. It's also worth noting that Kretschmann has spent quite a bit of his career playing German military officers, so it wouldn't have been much of a stretch.

Whereas Webb (with his expressive face, gravelly voice and more world-weary look) was better suited to play Haans, portrayed as a harried desk jockey who's in charge of his own little world but crumbles under pressure.

Good points. Well said.
