Straight to dvd like Con Air, Grind House, XXX, From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado, Heat, Anaconda, Six Days Seven Nights, Reindeer Games (yes a horrible movie), all those direct to dvd movies?
I think the only accurate part of that sentence was "that guy who plays the bad guy". As yes he mostly does play a bad guy, but id say most of them are not direct to dvd.

Heat is one of the best "heist" movies ever made.
Six days seven nights is a bad example.
Trejo appears for maybe half a minute in a non speaking role.
And although there's an argument to be made that non speaking roles are his best roles, he is barely recognizable during that half minute (he's a pirate, running around in the background, carrying a gun. He's not even the 'main' pirate!).
