The propaganda was part of the joke.

Someone who didn't understand satire would have thought Team America was taking a jab at all the countries the US has "helped". In reality it went after everyone.

The same is true about this one. The intentionally bad acting, unbelievable plot and action sequences, and the over the top propaganda was taking a jab at Hollywood just as much as the border militias. This is really the fundamental theme of modern grindhouse movies.

They're fun to watch as long as you can shut off your political logic and lock up your inner film critic for an hour or so.

Do yuo really believe that? That the politics of the movie was just a joke and just parodying the times (i.e., the new immigration laws in Arizona and the general talk around that nation these days)?

This movie had nothing to do with shutting "off your political logic."

American men of all races have not had the bravery to stop invaders from ruining the hospitals, neighborhoods, emergency rooms, children, women, elderly.Burning US flag and name it.
In 1950 it would never happen.
Therefore, why not make a movie that insults the audience and what remains of this country.
America has been imperialistic for years,so it is payback.
DeNiro? Ha.

This came out during peak Mexican immigration. It is one of Donald Trumps favorite films.

The funny thing is, now since this film came out, Mexican immigration has declined and the government of Mexico wants them to return.

People don't get this movie. Mexican immigration started surging in the early 1970's after the collapse of Bretton Woods.

I wish people could get this film. For a Latin, it is pretty good.

Burning the US flag? Rarely happens. Maybe should happen more for the polluted, fast food, doped up culture the US is. Now they are pouring chemtrails to block the sun.

Doesn't surprise me. I've met people who seriously thought Team America was a ringing US foreign policy endorsement. Heck, didn't some US troops even adopt the hilarious theme song in a non-ironic way?

But people really though this movie was seriously grinding an axe about immigration? I thought it was supposed to be like the "pro-black, anti-whitey" blaxpoitation movies?

reply

If Machete is a serious film about Mexican immigration then Planet Terror is a serious film about bioterrorism and Team america:World Policy is pro-U.S. involvement in other countries.

reply

Methinks it's part-black comedy/gore, part-exploitation homage, part-social commentary.

In "Team America" I get the feeling that Parker / Stone really did want to go after everyone - they go after the hawks more than we realize!

However, I would have a *really* hard time believing Rodriguez is politically aloof or somehow not in agreement with "Machete"'s rather simplistic political worldview.

The film itself is so ridiculous that I can't really take it seriously as political propaganda, but just because it has that tone does not mean the filmmakers are that naive. They take a political stand that is the default, "safe", pro-left position that will ensure the gore and entrails can fly onscreen. Can you imagine how much people would have come down on this film in terms of its violence if it had an anti-immigration political "view"?

Well looky there, its another cockroach who says you must be racist if you think this film is racist! Typical of your slime.

The left-wing flake (RR) who directed this flick is enough to let you know its going to be liberal BS.

I'd LOVE to see a movie just as the other poster stated, from the 'pro-American' point of view. Can you imagine the limp-wristed liberals complaining about THAT?

It wouldnt take much of a movie. Just continue letting the audience know that MORE AMERICANS HAVE BEEN KILLED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS SINCE 9/11 THAN THE IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WARS COMBINED and it would be very simple to let common sense people know the true cost of illegal immigration instead of the 'woe is me' picture of some helpless migrant 'only' here to work.

Oh im sure there would be 'demonstrations'...

...political logic...?

Now there's a contradiction in terms.
