HIV, but can still have kids and sex?
I'm confused. Jennie Garth's character had HIV/AIDS, but she said that she could still have sex, and have kids. How is that possible with this disease?

shareShe could have safe sex (i.e. condoms) or pursue even safer romantic outlets. As for kids, a person with AIDS can always be artificially inseminated, though she might pass the disease down to her kids.
shareactually, the mother can become pregnant. The baby is supposedly safe during the first semster, but it is during the second and third that the chances are high for passing the disease on. However, as long as the mother is aware of her status as an HIV+ woman, the doctors will put her on special meds until the birth, which will be via c-section. Once the baby is born, they will be administered the same drug, and the odds of the baby will be born HIV- are very good.
shareamniotic fluids (the fluid present in the womb with the fetus) is not one of the five types of fluids (I know the movie mentioned only four, and no, the fifth is NOT vinyl) that can transmit HIV/AIDS, so as long as her OB/GYN in aware of her condition, a pregnant woman who is HIV+ has a good chance at a perfectly healthy baby. She just shouldn't breast feed. As for the getting pregnant, un-protected sex with someone who is HIV+ is never advisable, because there is definitely a risk involved for the un-infected partner, however, IVF is safe for mother, father, and baby!

ECP is the life for me!!
You meant to say The Chance The Baby is Born WITHOUT HIV is very good if they put the child on the same meds as the mother?

This movie is overexaggerated. Porn stars have unprotected sex all the time and never get AIDs nor get pregnant.

She could also always adopt or have a surrogate carry her kids or whatever.
Obama 08!!!
As long as the woman is otherwise healthy then she can have a baby. If she hasnt been sick,is consistant with her meds, does pre-natal care and does everything by the book, there is a 98% chance that her kid will NOT become HIV positive. Obviously if the woman has full blown AIDS then not likely and extremely dangerous. But the couple would be advised to get pregnant through artificial insemination for the partners sake. Also once the baby is born it is not allowed to have breast milk from the mother because that is one of the fluids that can not be passed.
sharechange that: I thought 98% was a bit too high. I think its more like a 70-75% chance that the kid WILL NOT be born with the disease if the mom takes very good care of herself.
