LOUSY ENDING!!!!

It was just depressing, and I don't know why anyone liked this movie. The ending really pissed me off. The doctor just tells her that he has bad news and it ends. That's really dumb. Why make a movie like this one and make the viewer feel like crap at the end?

i agree it could have been better, but it wasnt like it ruined the whole movie.... and even though the ending wasnt exceptional ,they prolly made the movie for awareness about HIV/AIDS, cuz well, people should know about that stuff, and this is a more entertaining way, rather than just sittting there reading about it or something

Oh my god i was so mad about the ending! My sister and I were dying to watch this movie and when it ended like that we were both just like "what the hell happened?!" it left me wondering a lot of things. Such as did the mom have it, did the friend, what happened to the teacher? what about all the other people who got tested? It's just disappointing!

reply

Are you guys kidding? First of all the movie is called Girl Positive. What were you expecting? Second, what kind of message would it send if the test came back negative? That sleeping around is okay cuz you might not get AIDs? It would defeat the whole purpose of the movie if she didn't have HIV. It wasn't exactly supposed to be uplifting, it was supposed to be a reality check.

Death...some reality check.

I can't read your tone over the internet. What are you trying to say? That seeing a healthy young woman (child) get HIV from unprotected sex is not a reality check for the viewers?

reply

HIV =/= death.

I thought they covered that pretty clearly in the movie. I mean, yeah, it blows and it's a heck of a reality check... but it's not a death sentence.

i think the reality check for the viewers and what i was thinking throughout the movie is that right now as of this minute i dont have HIV/ AIDS and that the girl in the movie made one mistake and would do anything to have a clean slate and be healthy. So right now i am healthy and I am lucky to have the chance to make sure that it never happens. I think thats the reality check here.

You're answer is awesome and instead of getting into a debate about all the ridiculous answers and comments on this post, I'll just give kudos to you for yours.

The girl is called Girl, Positive. I really don't know what the huge shocker was at the end when the girl does in fact, come up positive. Matter of fact, it concerns me slightly that so many people spent the entire movie in this suspense ridden curiosity over how and what the ending would be at all. Especially enough to write a post about it and be disappointed that the ending was not that of a "good" film. The movie was to show how easily teens and anyone with even one partner can be infected with HIV and AIDS.

But by far, repeating the title alone was the best answer I've seen hands down! Kudos, kudos and I completely agree with you!

i might be the only one, but i thought the ending was perfect. sharp, to the point, brute...and not fairytale lallalaa unrealistic. woo hoo.

reply

I agree that the ending was perfect and poignant.

reply

Nope, you're not the only one. I thought the ending helped accomplish what the movie was all about - AWARENESS - that it can happen and does. Real life does not always have happy endings.

reply

I agree, I thought it would have sucked if it turned out that she was negative because this message will get through alot of people, that yes it does happen, I loved the ending because a typical movie, you worry about it and the it turns out the character is okay...

reply

It would have been better if she turned out not to have AIDS after all. Why? The audience wouldn't be expecting it. We suspect that she does indeed have it all along and to just confirm that is pretty lame. Plus there's the theme of redemption and second chances. She learned her lesson and has another chance, don't waste it. BTW, if anyone's interested in similar movies, this subject matter was handled much better a dozen years ago in Kids.

Or they could have done a "Dallas" ending. Remember that "Dallas" lost an entire season when Patrick Duffy returned to the show? His death was just a "bad dream" to Victoria Principal. The movie could've been the same, the girl waking up with a scream and realizing she'd had a horrible dream that she had AIDS. Some dreams are like that; they are very detailed and so real that when you wake up, there's a second or two that you can't distinguish the dream from reality.

It would defeat the purpose of the movie to end it with her not getting HIV. That would not properly display the movie's message. It's supposed to show that you CAN get infected after one time, the first time, any time. What kind of message would this movie be sending if she didn't end up with HIV? "Oh, well, you were lucky this time so just be more careful." Some kids are so ignorant these days that ending the movie like that would probably just make them think that it's ok to have unprotected sex because the girl in the movie didn't get HIV.

I thought this movie was pretty good except for the ending. I think it was sort of implied that she was HIV positive but the ending could have been different. The ending could have ended with Rachel and the teacher at an HIV/AIDS support group.

Good ending, if you like cliched endings. 
