bollywood can make anything look glamorous

As an educated woman, I can definitely say that this movie was quite sad. I'm even more saddened by the number of positive responses I have seen on the IMDB message board about this film. Just goes to show, that bollywood can glamorize anything and the brainwashed public will buy it.

I loved the comments posted on the thread titled:
Pathetic Movie [A women needs to know when to ask for help :)]

A womens journey is not to sell herself. A better movie would have been if Badki had made it in this world on her own terms. There is no cinderella ending with such a career. There will be no rich Abhishek waiting. And worst, a girl with such as an upbringing as Badki would die of depression. AT LEAST after she became wealthy enough, she could then have thought of doing something else.

Unbelievable.

I agree with everything stated above. Especially the parts where she becomes ridiculously wealthy. At this point, she can even speak some english (or atleast more then before), so why not show her finally getting a new job?

I agree with what you said about the fairy tale ending, but not really anything else. The woman asked for help plenty: she asked Karan, she asked her mother, and she pretty much begged that boss whom she went with initially. She was left with no choice. And how could she ever get a new job? She would have to actually finish high school and get a real education, and everyone knows that in India thats almost impossible to do once you drop out. And, who would hire her? The only place she could go would be a big company, and she can't even do that because she's been with all of the bosses, and even if she hasn't, someone might recognize her and tell the boss. I'm sorry, but she was left with no choce..not that it justifies her actions, but w.e.

I didn't watch the movie with extreme detail, but there was one guy that kind of stated if she at least knew a little English, she'd have a chance at the job.

There was also that sales position in the department store, where she couldn't comprehend what lingerie meant.

Even though its a retail job, its still better then prostitution right?

guess u didnt pick up on what really happened in that store then. when the woman was asking for lingerie and rani couldnt understand her the manager came along and directed her to the right section of the store and as he was leaving with the customer he told her that he needs someone that can understand a little english to help out customer and virtually telling her that she doesnt have a job in their no more.

The story basically went as every job she went for she was told to leave then finally when she did meet someone that said he was willing to give her a job but she had to sleep with him he went back on his word after she slept with him and at the same time her dad was in hospital the bills were piling up and her uncle and cousin were in the verge of getting them thrown out of their house she never really had much left she could do other than the path she choosed. she even went as far as saying she didnt wanna make any excuses why she done what she did and when the opportunity arised to save her family from financial ruins she grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

I don't think you are looking at the message in the right way.

The point of this movie was to show how, in modern times, women who have to take up such jobs as prostitution are a little more accepted in society than they used to be. I believe there was an older Bollywood film like this (I forgot the name), and the girl was excluded from the family. I actually really enjoyed this movie, and I do have a better understanding of why women are forced to become prostitutes.

I also think that part of what you said was correct; there will probably be no rich Abhishek waiting in the end. But, of course, this is Bollywood. Could you have expected anything less? Plus, she was not a streetwalker, but a high paid "escort", which gave them a little leeway into her happy ending.

I still enjoyed the movie greatly, and I think it has a great message, regardless.

WHat did you think of Paulo Coelho's "eleven minutes" novel??. I felt the same way as he painted a happy ending. Once you have started in prostitution its hard to go out of it when everyone knows what you are.. I agree the movie could have taken a different take but that doesn't mean that what she did does not happen. Then again, why can't happy ending exist, some do!!. I know it sounds narrow minded, but maybe thats what the people behind this movie wanted to show that it can go this way sometimes, while mostly in reality it goes the other way. Prostitution is becoming a profession these days around the world .. pretty soon they will be asking for governmental pensions with the growing circle associated with politicians. Who knows..
Although proof of concept, i agree with you, i'd rather see a moral, ethical interpretation and turn around rather than glory in the soiled deep.

I completely agree, I mean why did she need Abhishek and how exactly did he fall in love with her having only spent a "few" hours with her? I couldn't get my head round it - it was almost as if it was a Bollywood/Indian version or Pretty Woman but with more emotions/family attached to it.

Oh but Rani did look HOT as "Natasha" remember that black sari?

now really i dont understand whats your problem with the film...
it seams like you disagree with the story so much that you are trying to make the story sound faultfull...

you dont agree with the tital of the movie..
ur blaming glamor qoutiont of the movie as brain washing audiance ?!
(oh comeone think bout it ....would glamor be a sole reason to impress someone plain n blind?)

when when gets so rich doing something like prostitution ...u cant really switch jobs...that becomes difficult in many ways ...
and abot a rich guy like abhishek comming in her life....
well ,as the story had progressed ...it was made clear that badki was a decent girl despite her profession...she had changed into being a dark n twisted girl...but was still a genuin n sweet girl as well...
n she never leured him into falling for her...and tired to keep distance n maintained her desision to not get involved into his life..
he was the 1 who accepted her however she was..

so yes... its unbeliveable ....its not entierly immposible.

it was a good movie with a moral msg for people...
and glam n fairy tale ending needs to b ignore while actully gaining the zist of the story.otherwise one cant really enjoy such movies...n u clearly dint

For an "educated woman" you sure have a closed mind and a strange filter of perception. Just because Rani M. is glamorous does not mean this movie is pro prostitution. Quite the contrary, she was miserable and carried great shame on herself that was reinforced by her mother. I did not read the comment "Pathetic movie[A women needs to ask for help:)]" because I actually watched the movie several times. She did ask for help. She overcame bad people, she overcame bad parents and the wonderful bond with her sister was never broken. Her sister saw everything with such clarity, but, after all, her sister was an "educated woman".
