You see, gwar fans have some silly notion in their heads that gwar is world renowned and famous, and that Lordi ripped them off. this is not the case, as gwar isn't well known in Europe, especailly finland.
Mr. Lordi based his band idea off Kiss, Evil Dead, and monster movies. He openly claims who his idols are and pays tribute to them. So don't you think he'd also pay it to gwar if they inspired him? He would, but key words here: gwar has NOTHING to do with Lordi.

I didn't say "GWAR RULES YOU IDIOTS". Because I don't see my opinion to be better then anyone else's. I'm a fan of thrash/death metal. And not silly hard rock poser bands like Lordi. I personally don't think they are ripping GWAR off, probably never heard about them. They are, however, ripping off Kiss. Though there's nothing wrong with that.

So yeah, instead of saying how much I love GWAR and say how stupid you are for liking something else.

I'll just say that your notion of how GWAR fans think is beyond stupid. Where ever you got the notion that they all believe that Lordi stole from them is untrue. Yes, many see the simularities in costumes and think that's f-ed up, mostly because they think Lordi are horrible and GWAR to be great. But that's about it. What's sadder then people talking about how angry they are that other people are dressing up like monsters are people saying how much they hate the people who talk about it.

And not liking GWAR because of different musical taste is one thing, but actually cursing out people who like them for no reason whatsoever (except that you truly believe that liking one band makes you less of a descent person?) is beyond retarded.

I've lost all respect for you and anything you have to say about anything. Your opinions could be dealt in a ratinoal way but for some odd reason, you rage about them, so you are clearly insane, and talking to you would lead to nothing.

That's nice. But you ACT like your opinion is better than everyone else's, and act like a pompous ass. You like thrash/death metal. How nice. Hard rock posers? Ohh, that's RICH. Did it ever occur to you that maybe Lordi are, ohh, I don't know...FANS of the band? There's a difference between being ripoffs, and being a semi tribute band. Mr. Lordi is a HUGE Kiss fan and he has never denied it. When they toured Ozzfest, he had to buy new suitcases to fit his Kiss stuff that he bought. On every album, he thanks Kiss and Gene. Dude, when Gene found out they won Eurovision, he said "My boys made it". God damn, when I met Mr. Lordi personally before a concert in Starland Ballroom, he was wearing a Kiss shirt! This is FACT, not opinion.

Goddamn you must have met some intelligent Gwar fans. Cause the ones I see are anything BUT. I've yet to meet a Gwar fan who likes BOTH bands. Well, minus one person I know. I never said differnet. It is fact that Mr.Lordi loves Kiss. So much that he ripps them off.

Actually, GWAR is only a rippoff of Alice Cooper. Kiss have never done anything to inspire them in any way. Plus, Cooper is thrash, just like GWAR. While Kiss is old school heavy metal (or hard rock), simular to Lordi.
And GWAR have evolved since their 'Hell-O' days and grown into their own world. Lordi will probably do that too, and have defenatly started with their movie and all that. But when they began, all I could see and hear was Kiss for the new millenium, and I didn't like it.

George Lucas ripped off everything, and came up with a strong fanbase that even has it's own religion. Honestly, this man created a TREND that surpassed everything it borrowed from. Tarantino surpassed all the cheesy flicks he drew inspiration from. Pulp Fiction proves this. Lordi continue to make great music, lyrically and musically different from KISS. And they don't make Lordi coffins and Lordi condoms instead of a new album *cough Greed Simmons cough*

"And technically, Gwar is a ripoff off Kiss, who is a rip off of Alice Cooper"

Gwar stated in many interviews they drew inspiration from KISS. Cooper thrash O.O??? He plays glam/garage rock and metal, not thrash. All bands progress with music overtime, it takes time to figure out the right sound for a band though. That's right, Kiss for a new millenion. Lordi will hopefully get other generations into rock/metal and classics, and away from hip hop and rap.

I kinda disagree with the Lucas and Tarantino thing. From the small list of films I've seen that they have 'borrowed' from, I do often like the original better. I did like Pulp Fiction, but that's about it. All of Tarantino's other films are okay and entertaining to watch, but I would never say any of them (except Pulp) is a cinematic masterpiece.

And the Star Wars Universe is awesome, though it has pretty much nothing to do with Lucas. The people who created the Universe are the directors of past films Lucas stole from, and the crew Lucas used to create stuff.

And I've never read any interviews that have GWAR say that Kiss had any inspiration on them. Though I haven't seen or read every interview they have done, so it's really possible. And yeah, I would consider Alice Cooper old school thrash, I would never call him glam. Heavy Metal/Thrash. That's how I personally would classify him.

That being said, I do hope that more kids at a young age watch Lordi (maybe just because they think the costumes are cool) and then grow into liking the various subgenrés of metal, at least rather then some of the (c)rap that's coming out today. I have nothing against the rap genré. But everything that has to do with hip hop or pop for the last five years have all been nothing but sh!t. And to quote Brian Posehn "Compairing Coldplay and Nelly, even sh!tty metal rules."

So, yeah. Let's keep on blasting our favorite bands and be sure that those poser kids get their asses kicked in school.

I agree with you on the Tarantino bit. The man knows how to make a good action flick, but other than Pulp Fiction, I feel he reuses the same concepts over and over. And I thought Grindhouse was bad. I'm sorry, jsut couldn't get into that movie.

Star Wars is amazing. The sad bit? I still have a chest of Star Wars action figures I kept from when I was 10-12. Yep, that's how much they mean to me. When I was a kid, NOTHING surpassed Star Wars. The classic ones, at least.
And Lucas is a mediocre director at best. A reason he has NEVER won an Oscar. Not one film *save for Star Wars, which he didn't direct* is Oscar worthy.

Check out some Gwar pages or something like that. Gwar frontman Oderus stated he and Lordi both drew inspiration from Kiss. Check, there's a link on Lordi's wikipedia I believe. Cooper *love the man, he's a LEGEND* played into the glam scene with songs like Poison. He later went back to his roots though.

Same here on the kids point. They should see REAL talent, handling an instrument with power, emotion, and grace, instead of a rapper blasting the same 3 beats over and over and repeating the words *beep* and bitch in every song. Honestly, I hardly doubt the lyrics "superman that hoe" took ages to write....
The rap genre has gone WAY downhill since the early 90's. Rap used to have aggresive, often meaningful lyrics. Now, it's been reduced to girls shaking their asses and fast cars. Oh, love the quote you used :)

I'm up for it. Just keep on rocking, and keep kicking ass. And spreading the word of metal :)

I haven't seen Death Proof yet, mostly because I think that all it is is 'Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!' by Russ Meyer, if Tarantino would make it, and I have no interest in seeing that. I did see Planet Terror which was kick ass, Rodriguez is one of my favorite directors.

And yeah, I do love Star Wars and I also own a giant collection of action figures (as well as posters and such), but the first movie (which was the only one he wrote and directed) is just way too much filled with stuff that he stole from other films. I love Empire with all of my heart, and think that if anything deserved an Oscar, it's Empire Strikes Back, totally best of the series (and of course, Lucas had really nothing to do with it). Return of the Jedi kinda turns into a children's flick after the Jabba scene, but it is entertaining, if I would have to list the Star Wars films in order of greatness it would be:

1.Empire Strikes Back
2.Return of the Jedi
3.Star Wars

the three new flicks don't count as they suck hard, just like the Ewok film and the Droids film don't count.

And yeah, I'll check out on Lordi's wikipedia, big fan of Kiss, so it would be pretty awesome to see that one of my favorite bands took inspiration from them.

Planet Terror was really good. It was a double bill here in the US, but the wait for it was worth it. Rodriguez has a great flair for these movies, and I think he's really got the smarts for film directing. If I believe correctly "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" was his also. Some people hate that movie. I thought it was the worst of the 3, but fantastic directing. Doesn't hurt that Depp was amaing in that movie either.

Heh, that's pretty much the EXACT same way I'd rate Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back is in my top ten of movies. The character evolution, the introduction of Yoda, and the most famous (in my opinion) line in history..."I Am Your Father"..all classic. The first one was decent, saved acting wise by Alec Guiness who is a genious at whatever role he had. I liked ROTJ, because it has the most action out of all the other 2. I loved the Jabba scene, it was a wet dream for me as a kid, Jedi beating the crap outta aliens. It doesn't hurt that they show the Rancor, one of the most badass monsters in movie history (in my opinion of course). but I do hate the ewoks with a passion. Along with that Star Wars Christmas Special. The new ones suck immensely, HOWEVER, Episode III was actually pretty decent, I won't lie.

Are you a LOTR fan?
Keep it metal :)

You best start believing in ghost stories....you're in one.

reply

Unfortunatly, I was not one of the many who would love the LOTR movies by Jackson. I saw all at the theaters, and when they had just been released, I was gay for those films. When I got my hands on Two Towers (downloaded as it wasn't out yet), I watched the movie maybe 30 times, and then 50 times just the ending with the Uru-kai storming the castle.

I would agree that it's a good trilogy, and always fun to watch. But I would never say the movies reach further then that. Beyond awesome entertaining, the movies are no masterpiece. I don't find any scene, shot or acting to be awesome enough to rate it as a cinema classic.

When I get kids, I will probably let them watch all the LOTR films though, because they are pretty awesome in every way. In my personal opinion, I was pretty dissapointed with Return of the King, seeing how all the battles in 1 and 2 were epic beyond belief, I just didn't get the same chills when ghost attacked giant elephants.

Overall though, very good films. Though I have to say that I don't love them enough to call myself a fan.

And yeah, Once Apon a Time in Mexico was Rodriguez. I loved all of the three films, and I have nothing against OATM, and especially Johnny Depp's performance, which is a key part in the awesomeness of that film. But Desperado, in my opinion, is the best of the three.

I am a pretty large fan of LOTR. I have read the books and all Tolkien related material. When the movie came out, I was completely in awe and wonder. Effects and action wise, it's amazing. The UrukHai storming Helms Deep in the pouring rain...amazing. The visuals are beyond astounding. It's like Jackson literally lifted the story from the pages and onto poured it onto the screen. While I agree that acting wise it was nothing amazing, especially the hobbits *I tend to hate small things in movies ex: ewokd, hobbits* I must make one and ONLY one exception. That is Sir Ian's portrayal of Gandalf, which I consider blasphemy that he wasn't awarded the Oscar for. He took the role with such power, such nobility...amazing. When he talks to Frodo, or when he breaks the bridge shouting "You shall not Pass!!!" i get chills. He is a very talented actor in myopinion.

Return of the king always left a strange feeling in me. The emotional conflict was tied off, but the grand finale was a disappointment. I even hated the ending in the book, I always felt a need for a climactic battle with Sauron somehow...

I'll probably also let my kids watch these films, the same way my dad showed me Star Wars for the first time, and presented me with my most treasured piece of Star Wars memoralibia...my Darth Vader action figure which I have to this day :)

Desperado was the best, Banderas was very good in that one. Undoubtably, it WAS the highlight of the series. Are you a fan of Sin City then? Rodriguex co-directed that, didn't he?

He has a very unique voice and I have never heard him take a false tone in my life.

No one ripped of any one.
Europe hadn't even heard of GWAR until people started saying that Lordi ripped them off. If you're gonna mock Lordi, then better do the same with Mortiis, he's a ''monster'' too and the other monster bands that you haven't heard of yet but probably are ripping off GWAR or Lordi too.

They're nothing alike.

reply

What the hell are you talking about?

I get a lot that you are saying, most of it pretty obvious. Except for one thing.

"Europe hadn't even heard of GWAR until people started saying that Lordi ripped them off"

This is the biggest lie I've ever heard in my lifespan.

Just because YOU and your friends never heard of GWAR, doesn't mean the rest of a whole continent agree with you. I for one, started listening to GWAR years before I ever heard Lordi.

And all I have to say is simular are the costumes, and I wouldn't say personally that Lordi or GWAR are alike or that Lordi ripped them off, but I would say that there's a big possability that Lordi drew inspiration in their costume design from GWAR, as well as other things. The drummer looks excatly like the main villain in the Troma film Sgt.Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., I wouldn't call it a ripp-off, either it was a coincidence or they tributed it.

That being said, Europe knew of GWAR. It wasn't as well known as Lordi but that's because Lordi is over-hyped beyond anything, and that's only because it's a 'hard-rock' band performing at a pop contest.

If finntroll would have done it, they would have become just as well known, as tATU and ABBA did as well. Sure, they were known, but they became pretty much superstars in every country afterwards.

That being said. You can like whatever band you like, you can tell people they shouldn't compare bands unless they know all the facts, but that being said, get some of your facts straight as well before you go on the Internet and preach for peace.

Gwar DID make a movie years ago...GWAR: Phallus In Wonderland. The story revolved around the singer having his penis cut off then spending the rest of the movie trying to get it back. Serious. It's true. That is the best they could do as far as a story. With lots of bad cheap looking props and awful video effects.

I'm a longtime fan of Gwar, but I'm also a fan of Lordi. The simple fact though is that any one of the Lordi short-form videos has a look, story, and production values miles ahead of anything Gwar ever did.
