Released in North America?

I've stumbled upon this show while looking @ teleteoon, a specialised cartoon channel in canada. Does anyone know where I can see if they have plans to release this in DVD on this side of the ocean? Shaun cracks me up!

I have to confess, I watch Shaun with my serta Sheeps.

I live in the States and LOVE Shaun the Sheep. I wish it would come out on DVD here, it costs so much to have it shipped from the UK. It's cool that some of the episodes can be viewed on disneychannel.com

I've only seen the UK version, I had it sent over to the US as a Christmas Present. I typically find the shipping to the US is not a problem if I go for surface mail, Amazon don't seem to stiff you. Besides Amazon.com carry it.

Question is, are you region 2 PAL compatible?

Quick question, is the US version dubbed, or has it the original UK soundtrack? The original has strong regional accents, but there is no real speaking, just grunts on the humans part.

reply

North America is in a different region. Some DVD players are region-free and I may just have to get one.

I think it's the same. Like you said, there is no real speaking. I learned from watching the UK versions on YouTube that the American Disney Channel does cut out an occasional scene for time purposes. I watched Sheepwalking and the part where Shaun walks on the Naughty Pig's house and where we see the Naughty Pig with the green face cream was cut out.

Glad to hear it is close to the original. I was most dismayed by other shows which were dubbed, such as Bob the Builder, Spot the Dog, and for the adults "Snatch" (Brad Pitt). Stressed Eric had the right attitude with their dubbing.

I don't understand why they would dub it all. They are speaking the same language, does it really matter if the accents are different?

It does seem to matter to some people. I have a somewhat long story I'll try to shorten up here.

I grew up in a multicultural and multi-language family, neighborhood, and schools. I also had a set of great-grandparents from London. I never noticed an accent until students at school would ask the teacher what language the people in a short film was speaking. They were speaking with a British accent and I hadn't even noticed a difference.

I still have no problem understanding British accents in movies shown in the US. However, sometimes I do see posters complain on here that they wished certain movies had subtitles because they couldn't understand the accents.

I prefer the original soundtracks because I don't give the accents a second thought. Maybe they should at least have a subtitle option so people who don't understand can easily learn to have an ear for the accents.

Also, subtitles are required by law for programs and movies shown on TV in the US if at all possible. So really, just add subtitles to any DVD for very little cost and don't worry about dubbing anyone speaking English. This program would require subtitles in the US because there is a song in English and there are sounds the person Hard of Hearing might benefit from being told about. The HOH are just as protected under the law as the deaf are with subtitles.

With the two US releases, they have 16 of the 20 episodes shown for the first season. They are out of order, though.

There is a third release coming on June 9th, although it looks like it is only 40 minutes. - Shaun the Sheep: Sheep on the Loose
