that DOESNT start with the main tornado chaser character's parents getting killed by a tornado at the beginning when they were a child.

just giving a try but what about Atomic Twister? (is it called like that?)
Just saw the movie once so I'm not sure what happend at the beginning.

atomic twister actually has the boy's mom go up in a twister, and he grows up to be a cop.

Oh ... now as you say I remember. It was the guy who saved this little boy in the end right ?

yea, the zack morris guy from saved by the bell was a cop, and his character's mother dies in the movie.
