Now that I've read the manga with the 4th segment...

I wish Shinkai could go back and add the 4th segment to the movie now that he's enjoyed some more success (presumably). As much as I love the movie in it's current form, I'd die to see that.

But to make that work, he'd have to add a lot from the manga to the very rushed 3rd segment. Then we'd have a feature film of 90-100 or so minutes.

Admittedly, it might not work, but I'd love to have it as an option.

Also, if you're one of the people that really loves this movie, you HAVE to read the manga. The 4th segment somehow manages to bring a sense of closure to the whole thing while still retaining the ambiguity.

YOu can still get it via Amazon. It's all online as well, if you want to dig it up (as is Shinkai's manga for Voices of a Distant Star).

I've read the manga and loved it. I consider the fourth segment more like a bonus feature. I don't really think it needs to be added to the movie, but then again, it might make it even better, so I'm conflicted.

Can't stop the signal.
