Why do the crappiest films have the most detailed 'bonus features'?
I was suckered into getting this based on the cool DVD cover artwork when I was in my local Blockbuster. Before I viewed it I read some of the comments on the message board. As one poster mentioned, there probably are "fake" comments made by people associated with this garbage.
Do you ever notice how some of the worst DVDs have some of the most detailed "extras/bonus features" included? I can only assume it's because the filmmakers know they need to have something "extra" to make up for the p*ss-poor craftsmanship that went into the movie. I can't count how many times I've seen this in DVDs in the last 5 years or so. "Midnight Movie" is no exception as it has some fairly well-done interviews with the writer, director, production designer, actors, etc, all detailing what a wonderful film they felt this movie was. When the director went on about the "unusually good" (I'm paraphrasing) script I wanted to vomit! There was nothing new or original about any of this. Every theme in this film has been done before -- see "Popcorn" (which this film liberally rips off), "Demons", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Tourist Trap" and a few more I can't think of at the moment if you want to see films that have dealt with these ideas previously - and a million times better.
I cannot recommend one thing about this movie. It has stupid people doing stupid things and pointless brutality (did we really need to see the dude pull off the girl's toes??)...
I take that back -- the actor playing the burly biker dude wasn't half bad. I can imagine him turning in a better performance with a better script and director.
To be avoided.
