Do you think Joey ....

This movie was very sad and the true victim was Joey.

At the end when his biological mother gives him the locket with their name, address and phone number, do you think when Joey gets older ( maybe late teens or college age) he will go back to visit his biological parents?

Thanks.

reply

I hope not. He has no business associating with uneducated trashy people, even if they did give birth to him.

Wow, what side of the bed did YOU get up on this morning?. The bio mother was not trashy. I wonder why she chose to stay with an abusive husband, but trashy?? no, she was not trashy.

That is what bothered me more in this movie. She was too good. In my life experience, abused woman are not married to abusive husbands for no reason. She just hasn´t got no flaw. That doesn´t seemed realistic to me. Maybe we should have had more hints of why was she with him. Like he was great in bed, he made her laugh... or on the other way around, she was insecure, she didn´t see herself as fit... I don´t know.

And to the original question: Yes, I think when he grows up he´ll look for them and relate to them.

Cheers!

Her staying with him had to do with insecurity, I am certain. Seven years is a long time.

@tandebsj: in the book she says she truly loves him, that's it.

Me too. I missed the part between where he got arrested and where she was picking him up after getting released from prison. I wondered what I missed that might have indicated why on earth she would want to hook up with him again. I can understand her decision to give the baby up considering her circumstances at the time even though she was legally married. I would have divorced him while he was inside prison and given the baby up with our without his consent. It used to be that a woman could put father unknown and make the decision to give the baby up on her own. Maybe since she was married to the guy he had to give his consent even though incarcerated. Also I don't like how movies always portray in these adoption situations that the kid is better off with millionaires than with regular people. They seem to have the attitude that all people who do manual labor are some kind of low lives. This is so not true. My husband worked in a factory for 39 years and we always had a nice house, car, and everything we needed for our kids. We go to church and are not drug addicts, alcholoics, or domestic voilence people. In this movie I didn't think Joey would be better off with his bio parents since all he ever knew were the Campbells. I was glad that his bio Mom and Dad decided to let him stay with his family. But just once I'd like it to be portrayed that the child be adopted by a loving average couple and not some ultra rich people just because they can give the child a lot of things.
