THIS VERY MOVIE COULD'VE OCCURRED IN A TRAILER PARK WITH WHITE PEOPLE!!

What say you then? You self righteous critics make me sad! First of all; if you come to the theatre with any prejudice, your mind becomes a lightning rod for BS that you've found fault with in the past. WHen I saw the poster, I was like.. "Oh not this *** again! But I saw the movie with a practiced unbiased mind. This movie is a HEIGHTENED REALITY COMEDY that occurs in the ghetto with bigger than life characters from the projects! The projects DO exist and there are wonderful people in them that are funny, violent, paternal, gossipy and loving. I saw them hilariously and beautifully represented in this picture. I've read scathing posts but found only general negativity. Be specific- What was bad? Honestly: Was there love for community? Moral values where the lead learns who his REAL friends were? A love story where the virtuous girl wins out over the material one who's dated famous Ballers? A life lesson on how the community around you change over money? How the lead character learns his lesson, takes responsibility and helps out his community? The ROOF TOP SCENE between the 2 leads alone was worth the price of admission! Over all IT WAS FUNNY! it might not be funny to those who let 1 negative outweigh 8 positives! It might not be funny to self hating or uppity black people who are embarrassed that ghetto folks exist. It might not be funny to whites who may not understand this particular community. THIS SAME MOVIE COULD HAVE OCCURRED IN A TRAILER PARK!!

Your rant has some points of marginal validity buried in the haze of tantrum. Also, you pitched a better movie than the one you saw.

reply

And you missed the most important point - where were all the white people???

reply

Would that movie be called My Name is Earl-The Movie?

reply

I thought this was a very good movie, too!

I had two sets of uncles and aunts that lived in white trailer parks. They were not dangerous neighborhoods, unlike the housing projects shown in this movie. Yes, I have known black people who were prior occupants of housing projects, and yes they are dangerous. If this movie were set in a trailer park, it's an entirely different movie.

reply

You didn't mention the acting quality, or therefore lack of.

Funny, I don't remember the whole neighborhood trying to beg Earl for money and/or jump him and steal it. Nor do I recall seeing Earl running for his life to escape some trailer park "gangsta" (wait, what do prejudice black people call white people trying to be "gangsta"?). And what did Earl buy with his money? A frickin El Camino and forgiveness.... not 5K shoes and take an @$$whoopin to find the moral of the story.

Seriously, black people are trying WAY to hard these days to turn everything racial. Give it a damn rest already. The only thing holding black people down is BLACK PEOPLE! Always wanting an excuse for everything and a scape goat to bitch about. Guess what, we ARE ALL entitled to a free education system and a chance to better ourselves. You can't blame where you live when you buy Jordans and bling and we're saving for college. You all could do the same thing, and a lot of y'all have and have bettered themselves and are ashamed of the likes of you, always making excuses. But what would you rather do? Find a reason to blame someone else instead of doing something about it. Y'all call someone an Uncle Tom for being ashamed of "where they came from" and ashamed of their people but then fuss when y'all don't get a leg up. Y'all ain't ever gonna be happy.

On a side note, I didn't think the movie was THAT bad, I gave it a 6/10. I had hoped they would have used Charlie Murphy and Terry Crews more. But at the same time, the movie seamed to me like they mixed First Sunday and Friday together and threw in a lotto ticket. Cubes character I swear was a straight replica of Witherspoon in Friday, Epps seamed like a knockoff Kat Williams from First Sunday, and Lorenzo the alpha gangsta = Debo. I could keep going but I think you see the point..

They might as well have called this "The Friday After Next Sunday: PAYDAY"

Now that I think about it, I need to change that rating cause of lack of originality. 4/10

Edit... Sorry for the rant, but I had just sat through one of the other raving lunatic racial threads and kinda carried over a little of what I wanted to rant over there into here...

reply

You made it damn clear all you know was learnt from the other side of the looking glass with all the "you's" and "y'alls" you used in your reply. OOH, and the whole "give it a damn rest" thing kinda did it too...

So, i guess some black guys pissed you off enough that you decided to go give them a piece of your mind, huh?

Oh... but since you apologized I am sure everyone will understand, so don't you worry...hehe

Lemme guess, post grad "anti-racist" that goes out of his/her way to proclaim how non-racist they are to look pc by badgering any type of argument made about racial indifference with the "You don't know what they've been through" and "you sound like a racist so your point is invalid" BS? Yeah, we get it buddy, now go buy some khakis and Abercrombie.

And btw, I was addressing a certain person, and seeing as how I'm not on a first name basis with that person, I'm pretty sure addressing that person and people like them I am trying to address as you and y'all is the preferred vernacular, so your point with that was???

And sure, some black guys have pissed me off... as well as some white guys... and there have been Mexicans, Brits, Irish, Italian, etc. as well. But what pissed me off and caused the rant was having to witness more and more whiny excuse posts in this and other topics in this movies message board. Too many lazy and weak minded people that refuse to hold themselves and the majority of their race accountable for their own actions and continue to pretend that other races are their problem starters and they are being screwed in life... Like I said, give it a damn rest, educate yourself, and become a decent human being and not a statistic at the social services office. School is free, but Jordans, "bling", 9's, crack and sandwich bags are not. Wanna whine about poverty? Look at your actions. (and by your, I am addressing people who whine about poverty while making stupid decisions)

Worry? pfft, I think I'll manage...

reply

if you are sorry for the rant you shouldn't have been ranting at BLACK PEOPLE - but at people who want free everything and that's not Black people only... you were generalizing an entire people.

Well your right. But it wasnt a white guy who directed or produced! May he rot in hell for using black actors instead and making it in the hood! You know how many WHITE movies could be black (and condsiderin 95% are white? ALOT!!!!) this is most ignorant thread i have evr read! So what, of course crime happens everywhere! Whats your point! I think 10 movies a yr with a black cast is not much to much ask? And by the way...... im white! Still think is the most ignorant thread i ever read!

reply

I totally get what you are saying. I have made this same point to other movies myself. So ignore all of the BS post. There is always going to be some "Uncle Tom" self righteous critic with a stick in their butt complaining about something as simple as a movie that's made for entertainment purposes being so embarrassing. I love to laugh. Laughing is a positive experience to me. But some people would rather complain and sell their own race out by calling any small thing bafoonarie just to impress another race and the other race is not trying to impress us. Really are white people calling Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller bafoons, no. But the same people who sell out their own will pay to see Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey etc. leave the theater laughing and advising other people to spend money to see.

So black people don't live in trailer parks??
