Soundtrack question

Can anyone tell me what the haunting, piano-led piece of music playing over the closing credits was? I thought it might be something by Brian Eno - I know I've heard it before somewhere. The soundtrack as a whole was very effective, I thought - bits of Vertigo and Assault on Precinct 13 to make the film buffs smile!

(Sorry the first post on this board wasn't about something more intellectually rigorous! ;))

I thought the same thing. The little country-type guitar coda was a banc called Yo La Tengo (it was repeated two or three times, I think), which leads me to think there will be more incidental music (am I using that term right? I forget!) Anyway, if you can't even get The Century of the Self on DVD, i think chances of a soudtrack CD are simply out of the question.

But if you have NTL, now Virgin Media, go to on Demand, and select 'Pick of the Week'. Select BBC Two and you can record from Tv onto VHS. Check next week and hopefully episode two will be up and so on and so on.

Thanks. I did recognise a Yo La Tengo track earlier in the programme. Thanks for the advice about NTL etc., too. I don't have it, but I wouldn't be surprised if this and Curtis' other films are available on dvd eventually - he's been receiving a lot of acclaim for his work.

The piano led piece over the closing credits was 'On Some Faraway Beach' from Brian Eno's 'Here Come The Warm Jets' album. It was also played at the very beginning of the programme.

The title isn't familiar, but I knew I'd heard it before. Thankyou!

I double that - many thanks. I've been trying to find this out for the last 2 weeks, cheers!

FANTASTIC first two programs. I think it's the only time in 5 years I've missed episodes of 24...

Role on Sunday

Bang on - obviously a very dedicated Eno fan is our Mr. Curtis... his other doco The Power of Nightmares use Eno's album Another Green World extensively! Both are a class producers and artist's.

Anyone know what the perky piece of music at the end of The Lonely Robot (Part 2) is? It's when Curtis is explaining that only economists and psychopaths behave in a rational, self-interested way.

I checked that out. I find this documentary fascinating and the music is indeed very effective. I did recognise the John Carpenter music, but as well as Precinct 13 I also recognised music from 'The Fog', 'Halloween' and 'Dark Star', Carpenter's fist movie. I also think that some of the music, whether listed or not was from De Palma's 'Carrie'

I'm sure I heard some Bernard Herrmann in the first episode at least (missed the second one:( ) - I think it was from Vertigo, but it might have been North by Northwest. Another piece I remember is a theme from Ennio Morricone's score for Bertolucci's Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man.

Edit: on reflection, it might have been the Tannhauser Overture I'm thinking of - Herrmann's score for Vertigo in particular sounds a lot like Wagner.

Can someone tell me what song it is that's at around the 36:45'ish mark of the 1st episode?

In part 3, does anyone know what piece of music is played over the images of the collapse of the Soviet Union?

Adam Curtis seems to have very similar tastes in music to myself. I can recognise most of it instantly even though my knowledge of music is very very limited and nearly all of it comes from films.

"Can anyone tell me what the music is that plays for a couple of minutes from 28.45 on episode one?"

"John Carpenter's Starman." - Jack Nitzsche. Track 14

"8.10 on episode 3." Not sure but sounds to me like Pino Donaggio for a Brian De Palma movie. Most likely, "Dressed To Kill."

Anyone any idea on the track that plays around 1:30 in episode 3? the bit where you see a lion on a plinth.

Another quick question about the music to this excellent programme.

I love the little jingle that plays when the "THE TRAP", "WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR DREAM OF FREEDOM?" titles come up.

It consists of four triads, played a little apart, possibly by a triangle-wave synthesizer.

I am presuming that this is just that, a little jingle created especially for the programme. However, if it is not, and this is taken from a song or other piece of music, I must have it!

Does anyone have any ideas?
