French Film clip

Does anyone know what film the clips of the French Revolution/Terror were taken from?

The Battle of Algiers.

Note the rating, there's a reason for it.

I wasn't talking about the The Battle of Algiers. The one which appears to be an early 20's film of Robespierre's terro during the French Terror.

reply

Sorry bud.

Saw the doc, Have seen the film, saw Revolutionary and France mentioned and spat out "BATTLE OF ALGIERS".

I'm resolutely certain the sepia-toned clip at 5:38 of part three (with the title card "Down with tyrants," indicating a silent film), as well as subsequent sepia-toned clips, was NOT "Battle of Algiers." That film is explicitly referred to and captioned later in the section, but it is quite distinguishable from the French Revolution clips.

I'm pretty sure it was Abel Gance's Napoleon. I think it was used in the "Visions Of Light: The Art Of Cinematography" documentary too.

Don't castagate me if i'm wrong. I did recognise it though.
