Why is it called sucker punch?

Over the years there have been a few reasons given for the title.

Mine: Blue is sucker punched by a defenseless girl. When he goes to rape his real-life sex doll, he can't get it up. All along, Blue thought he wanted a lobotomized Baby Doll to play with, but that doesn't really stimulate him in the end.

What attracted Blue to Baby Doll was not her body, but her mind, her soul. Her courage, intelligence, her spirit is what really attracted him. And, as she said, he would never have her. Her spirit was unconquerable...

Meta, I guess, a commentary on the audience.

It was marketed to guys when it was really a Girl's girl movie.

It promised scantily clad leads and a sexy older woman when it really revealed the non-stop abuse these women endured and makes no bones that they were forced to dress the way they do.

Despite the girl power, female super hero vibe of the film, the main character is utterly destroyed by the men in the film.

So the guy audience expecting some titillation really got sucker punched by this film. Which is why it causes white neck, eye bulging rage when they discuss it.

It should have been called Sucksa Bunch.

Because a sucker punch comes out of nowhere and KOs the guy who thought he had it all wrapped up (he's now the sucker who fell for the trick). In this movie, Baby got Blue and her stepfather imprisoned. So she sucker-punched them. Hope this helps.

I think it refers to how the audience expected one sort of movie but they got something completely unexpected. In other words, sucker punched.

That was a preempted sh! Just know I have a whole bag of sh! with your name on it.

The ending hits you unexpectedly, the message it passes and the beautiful dialogue at the end are all related to it.

"No one is gonna take my soul away i'm living like Targaryen"

Baby Doll realizes she's not the hero of her own story. She's the hero of someone else's story.

It's actually a fourth wall breakthrough in which the audience got sucker punched because they spent money on this film.
