Nodded off towards the end

I thought that the first hour or so was amazing, but towards the end it didn't hold up (maybe the novelty wore off). Still an 8/10 and will probably be in my top 100. I also don't like that Toni Colette is listed above the voice actor of young Mary, when she was in it way more than Toni.

Hmm, I actually thought there were some very powerful scenes in the last 30 minutes, and that the filmmakers really took a lot of creative Liberty and tested the limits in that part especially. I love the movie throughout, and although none of it is conventional, I thought the end was the most fabulously unconventional part of this work of art. But I can see how some people may be disturbed or even perhaps bored by Mary spiraling in and out of the lowest nadirs of depression and destruction. It can be a little much for some people, and if you are expecting a cute animated film, it might feel a bit dragging. To each his own, I guess.

I thought there was a strong shift in gears in the last third. Of course the movie deals with some really heavy issues, like mental health and loneliness, but all the humour from the beginning completely disappears and we're left with just this grim outcome of things. I thought the fact that Mary was pregnant during her suicide attempt added nothing and was unnecessary, as if her decision to end her own life wasn't dramatic enough.

With that said, I'd also give it an 8 out of 10, maybe even 9 out of 10, and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.
