Did this movie bomb at the box office?

Yes it was as Wikipedia clearly states that it earned $1.7 million USD(2.33 million $ AUD) on a $8.2 million AUD budget.so it was able to recover only 25% of its budget.I think it happened beacause of sad ending despite it being a brilliant movie.
