Hate these kind of movies....

bleak, independent, depressing, colorless, downers - full of losers and misfits

if I wanted to see all that, I'd go to a family reunion!

I like these kinds of movies; you know there are the typical Hollywood blockbuster where it all comes to a fight between the good guy and bad guy in the end. Sometimes I don't even finish these kind of movies. I think,"do I really care what happens to these people"? Now Frozen River is great mainly because of the lead actress--Melissa Leo. The story is suspenseful and tells of a way of life most of us can't imagine.

Not a movie for the brain dead. My condolences.

Lmao, thank you.

I agree. Too painful to watch. SO sad. One could say that those that enjoy these films just like to see others' misery. But I am not saying that.

OK, I can understand someone objecting to films being

"bleak", "depressing", "colourless", "downers" or "full of losers and misfits"

But why would a film being "independent" be hateful?

It aint like it used to be, but it'll do

If you know anything about the poor, white working class, this movie hits home with a punch. Accurate and touching....

The mother did her best to support her children without a father. She saved money to buy them a new home. Also, she wanted to work fulltime but her boss wouldn't let her because he rather gave people who couldn't even get to work in time this opportunity. In what world is a woman like that a loser, you idiot?!

It's ironic that the pretentious critics who rave about the artsy-fartsy "beauty" of watching people suffer in movies like this are the same ones who condemn horror movies as "torture porn".
