one of my favorite movies, and one question

What I recall from the beginning of this film was the grey/blue of the scenery, and as the relationship between Meryem and Cemal grew more intense, so did the colors. I loved this film! My question is this: Why did Cemal get so angry when she called the professor 'abi'? When he heard Meryem call Cemal abi, he was angry as well, saying "I thought you weren't a couple". How/when is this term of endearment used? I would also recommend "The Edge of Heaven", as another poster did earlier. Turkish music has become one of my interests as well, from viewing these two films. If you likey, get some music by Mercan Dede; I suggest "Su", and listen to a song Ab-i-Cesm. So beautiful.

As far as I can tell according to my experience among Turks, "abi" means something like "brother" (it also has a feminine equivalent, "abla") and it's used by both males and females when they address a male who's older than them -whether it's their blood brother or not (in this case, if I'm not mistaken, Cemal and Meryem are cousins).
I believe neither character got mad because of the word itself, it was rather because of the situation: Cemal probably didn't want Meryem to get too close to Irfan; Irfan got upset because he believed the kids were married (because they made him believe so) and a lover is never addressed as "abi/abla", he was saddened by the lie.

hey, micmal_12, it's only taken me almost a year, and another viewing of 'Bliss' to look at the message board, and see that you've given me an answer! I don't know any Turkish people off hand, so that helps!Thanks!
