You are all so very wrong! (and Here is why!)

Okay... I have, on various occasions come to IMDb to get a quick view
of a film I am about to watch from a screener sent to me, review it,
Buy it, and/or just plain watch it...and when I came to see what was
said about THE VANGUARD, I couldn't believe the utter distaste and
stupidity that pre-empted my first viewing of it..

Before I do give my opinion, I should first tell you that as a living?
I not only have a very infamous Horror film collection, But? I also
program, and run my own Double Feature Horror night every Friday, and
am Canada's ONLY performing Horror Hostess, I went to film school, and
I am not just some frigging kid who loved Twilight, and thinks all
films are crap if they are 1. Indie, 2.Low Budget, and 3.Foreign to
N.America. I have found that many, MANY stupidities have saturated the
boards here, and only because the people writing them are naive lil
ones, with no experience in appreciating the art of filmaking, (as many
of the kids write on the boards, and I quote "This was done in a
backfield, I could of done better!!" Well, whats stopping you then,
asshat...Go on then...DO IT! This film is truly an original...Since
writing Reviews, and being able to speak to large audiences about
films, and have people listen to me, I have watched the Horror industry
go down the drain. The re-makes have ruined anything that any of the
'class' the originals had, and this is NOT new news by any means,
apparently people like the cheapened re-makes...But? Thank the Gods,
There are some of us that look furthur for deeper things beyond how
good the FX were done, and How much $$$ was spent on them..(again,
another comment seen in the boards way too often, apparently these
people know nothing about just what goes into making a
film...especially financially, They are never 'cheap'...(Unless of
course you are a trust fund kid who basically pays people to do films
for them, and well...usually? It shows.) The Vanguard had so much
originality to it...and to all of those who say "I could of done better
make-up with a grease pen!" Obviously you weren't watching it on a high
quality set up, as if you look closer? You will see minute hints of
very scarce CGI making it look a tad more realistic...Another thing
that many people who have decided to give their opinion here go on
about is the how the story sucked..Are you for real? I have never even
seen anything like the plot on this one! It is fantastic...and those
who comment on the realism being shoddy? Have you ever read Max Brooks
'Zombie Survival Guide' or even have any common sense? If you are
fighting Zombies, (especially the type that we are introduced to in
This one..) You will surely agree that his choice of weaponry is the
best there is, seeing as many people forget when and if there is a
Zombie Armageddon/Plague anytime? Bullets will only last you so long... Have you ever seen such clever ingenuity when there is NO electricity, No shelter, and it is you against ALL of them, One bite? and you are gone!I suppose you all would be the last one standing with your vibrating Wii controller, right? THINK before you speak!
Then? Theres some other comment about 'WTF? The guy is wearing white under his cami flack jacket??' Okay, Mr. Super Military Man...Did you neglect to notice, and then consider, that he is Thee ONLY one wearing that white outfit? Hmmmm...Could it be his religion?? (Did you miss the clues that Eastern Religious ferver was a part of this outbreak? and The character that wears his traditional Muslim or Islamic clothing would be able to do so in the Military in 2015?? *beep* Even cops are allowed to wear their turbans if they are Sikhs, as silly as some may think? It is still religion before uniform...Havent any of you seen THE EVIL DEAD??? Of course you have...cause it is 'Cool' to be into that./..Well? Did you know that the reason Evil Dead (if you have ever read the book by Raimi, or even Campbells book..) is such a classic is because of the clever use of things Raimi invented to get such original effects, (and Yes, he actually used a felt-tipped pen to make one of the most infamous black vein animation scenes that people feel down their spines so much!
I could go on and on, But? I will not, as I fear it is a futile effort, and I know the cream will rise to the surface on this one, and you guys will be left looking like idiots (as there are many comments removed, I can see...Obviously some folks got smart?) I highly recommend this flick, and I welcome any of you brats to come and argue the fact that this is one original, inventive, wonderful, and just plain well done film about a very real cause to be scared...as I know I don't trust the Military, and what they are doing behind closed doors with Solanum (Yes, another Fact, read up on it..) and I hope by the time when it comes down, you will all at least learned that its easier to sit here and say something sucks, than going out and putting your $$$ where your mouth is, and go on, if you thinkyou can do better? Go on then...I would LOVE to see you try.

Any Takers??
(And if you liked this one so much? I also recommend DOD SNO/Dead Snow, from Norway, (But its sub-titled, and ergo, not watchable by many of you...) and, of course, another one, whom I personally take offense at the *beep* comments about it, as the Director is a fiend of mine, THE ZOMBIE DIARIES, by Micheal Bartlett, I am a huge Fan/fiend of George Romero, and I have even personally told him that although his films are the most well-known and seen Zombie films, There are many more that give him a run for his $$$...he agreed.)

Lastly? If you are not part of the solution? You are part of the problem...Just remember that when we get too many plotless CGI crap , and not enough films with substance, intelligence and style...Pat yourselves on the back...because it is because of stupid unexperienced *beep* who just have big mouths and small brains...(even a Zombie wouldnt waste their chompers on you!)

I am not a Film Student
I do Not claim to be a "Fiend of george romero " or any other director nor do I feel that would help sway my decisions on any film for that matter.

I will be honest with you this movie is sort of guilty pleasure of mine. The first time I watched it I hated it, I decided to give it another chance because I am both a low budget film fan and a huge zombie film fan. I liked it alot more the second time around. Its really because I took it for what it was. A pretty crappy movie. It could have been done much better with a little bit more character development. The whole movie I wanted Max to break out and have a little bit more debth. He just didn't. Simply put even though I do enjoy this film I still felt like it was missing alot and I wanted more. I didn't find anything wrong with the clothing or the gentlemen wearing the white pants. I did not like that he was riding a store bought chopper, get a little more creative, most likely a budget / time issue. I had a few other issues with the film to be honest Im not going to get into it. Why? because your sort of a elitist. It is by no means a "Cult" ,great , good or even a decent movie. Its alright, Its forgettable.

Really? REALLY? "stupid unexperienced *beep*" A little harsh. If I really have to be an experienced( what ever that means) person to enjoy movies, than obviosly I have been doing something wrong. Movies are entertainment and although they may be your life, the world has many other issues to get all huffy and puffy about. If someone doesn't like a movie like they are not wrong. If the story was not conveyed well enough and people start asking why was the guy wearing white pants under his camo its an applicable question if you ask me. it didn't bother me. You are right about religion probably being the reason behind that. A little confusing though. I digress though Chill out nobody is wrong, and name dropping will prove nothing but a lack of confidence. Your words as good as any others and whether you knew george or not.

Thanks Miss Gory!

I bought this movie last night because, like you said, it looked interesting. I didn't get a chance to watch it, but I wanted to find out a little more about it, so here I am. I was discouraged at first by the number of negative posts, even though I always take them with a boulder of salt.

Your post makes me feel better, and I'm looking forward to cracking the DVD case tonight.

There is hope for low-budget independence yet!

The movie is not as original as you say. I guess we forget an original predessor by Richard Matheson, I Am Legend. Going with The Last Man On Earth or The Omega Man. Spin on an old idea, no not original in any sense. Changing vampires into biosyns. There are some scenes where the CGI effects were over the top, like the axe to the heart, but it reminded me of Versus, but that was more about style than substance. And while you go on about Max Brooks and the ZSG, I guess you haven't read World War Z? But this really isn't about zombies... they are infected, much like the 28 days later/28 weeks later infected. People who die when shot, stabbed through the heart and bleed. No Zeds here hun. Loved the use of "savages" as Max called them. So you are looking at people effected by a medication (or virus) which turned them into savage cannibals.

So you wasted an entire rant talking about zombies when really its not a zombie film. Go watch Last Man On Earth or the Omega Man again, then you will see the relation to this film. Guess you missed the classics in film school. Or do we have to start at the beginning with you with Thomas Edison's Production of Frankenstein, or The Cabinet of Dr Calgari and work up from there.

Spoiler: What you do doesn't make your opinion any more worthy than another person's. Even if that person is silly.

You are simply a pretentious shill

This was a boring heap of crap and if it is the sort of cheap derivative schlock you'd choose for your show I'm very happy I never have to suffer your show.

Shill is not a bad description. Attempting to elevate a film such as this requires turning a blind eye to what makes a decent film. This one had none of the requisites, the plot was weak, the story required a text prologue and heavy narration and still failed. The acting was hammy and the dialog was stilted. The action scenes were over done, the lead was supposedly a survivor yet reacted as a first time encounter with each encounter. Some zombies died for no apparent reason and others required extensive killing.

I don't believe any amount of money could have saved this, the death knoll for me was the Blair Witch bouncing camera work. But, that is just me and it does it every time.

Totally agree with you, though you`re a bit harsh. Loved that movie, completely surprised not once but many times while watching.

Wow, what a rant. What a shame it is totally wasted on a film that doesn't deserve such support. The fact that you also like The Zombie Diaries says it all though... you just enjoy very poorly made zombie films (note: I didn't say 'cheap'—I'm a fan of low budget films myself, but they have to either be well directed or fun, which The Vanguard was neither).
