After Phelps' death?
Do you think the family/church will continue as strongly after Rev. Phelps dies? I certainly hope not - but you heard what the son in the film said....

shareOf course! I can't wait until gays finally get freedom so I can watch the Westboro Baptist Church cringe.
shareI don't think so, at least not for very long. For one things, cults need a charasmatic leader - and very few have that quality. For another, they're going to die out eventually, unless they resort to incest, which they've probably done already.
Sometimes the difference between self-amusement and self-actualization is less than you think.
As people noted, this church is a personality cult, which usually implode upon the death of their leader.

I agree, I feel that when their leader dies and people picket that funeral they will see how it feels. That man is crazy as *beep* anyway. An angry old man, who is definitely going to hell.

This really is a tragic scenario, I've actually driven by the Phelps complex and church in Kansas. These folks are completely ignorant, and what's worse is the hatred they send to others gets reflected back on themselves. Hating these people isn't the answer, calling for their deaths puts those in the places of hypocrites and brings them to the Phelp's level.
These people need more love and emotional support than anybody they protest or demonize.
I'm fairly confident that the Westboro congregants are not open to receiving love and emotional support, if that's what you're driving at. They are obstinately convinced that they are the saviors of the world...or worse yet, that the world cannot be saved and they are appointed to preach its doom. How do you give love and emotional support to people like that when they would never think of receiving it from you? No, the answer is to ignore them. If no one acknowledges their protests, I think that would take a lot of the wind out of their sails. They LOVE confrontation and controversy. There's absolutely no reason why these 60 people should be this relevant, other than the popular media makes them relevant by covering them.
shareI cannot wait until this man dies, it will be a beautiful day. On this day I hope that many Americans show up to his funeral and protest their beliefs...because this guy deserves it. I am a UW-Stout student, and these people showed up to our campus and said that 3 of our students deserved to die (they died in a house fire). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tiMBq0eelI that is our response to these sick people showing up in our town.
shareI don't know but I can't wait to picket it.

I'm hoping they all kill themselves at one time. You know they decide that the world is just too far gone and just say let's kill ourselves.
shareThey might when their father dies... But like my partner said, there might also be a power struggle among the siblings to decide who the new main leader will be.
It's OK, Claude... it's me... Dad...
