Truly wretched


I would have liked to like a movie about moral ambiguity, but this was turgid tripe. Deliberately and pointlessly oblique. Terrible lighting -- not done to enhance the dark story but to hide its Eastern Europe location (not that anyone really cares about that; yes, it'd be weird to see Cyrillic in the background, but this looks as if it was shot by an amateur, or a 2nd unit type.) Cuba is about as subtle as a thrown brick. The usually good Kim Coates eats the scenery w/o the slightest pulling on his bridle. Maybe his brother is a better director.

I agree. A major disappointment. I'm surprised some people seem to have liked it but different strokes and all that. I thought it was awful.
