So did someone just have $6 mil sitting around and wanted to blow it?

Seriously, that's pretty low budget for a movie, but why even make this film if they're not going to promote it or put it in any theaters..?

I wonder how far into they got before they realized it was a serious stinker...

I think you may be on to something there.

My ex-girlriend is a tax auditor and she would deal with this all the time. Film write-offs don't exactly work the same as general business write-offs (it's not a good of a write-off). Movie investors are passive investors.

6 million is pretty cheap for a movie, so I bet it does make its money back. My Hollywood Video had an entire row of this movie. Most movies make their money in rentals.

In response to the OP's subject line: we might ask the same question of good old Tommy Wiseau (writer/director/producer/star of amazingly terrible cult epic "The Room" (2003)).

For those who know what I'm talking about, the question is simple, Tommy: where did the other $5.9 million go?

I feel the same applies here, but I own and love "The Room." Can I get an amen?

Both Surfer, Dude and The Room are absolutely funking incredible and you should all thank god that they exist.
