Did this movie go straight to video?

Now I watch more then my share of TV (that's for sure). I don't like commercials but you really can't aviod them. For the life of me, I don't ever remember seeing ONE COMMERCIAL OR AD for this movie when it came out. I saw it on one of the Cable Channels - and that led me to believe it really might of gone straight to video. No one is going to confuse "Surfer, Dude" with "Citizen Kane" or "On the Waterfront" that's for sure. I do wish it was a little bit better of a movie, I mean if you can take a cheap quick shot at "reality TV" - all for it.

One thing that I think all surfers should be outraged about. Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) wearing the Greg Noll shorts. Listen, I'm an East Coast dude, never surfed on a board in my life - wish I had learned to surf BUT TO USE A GREAT LIKE GREG NOLL'S STRIPPED SHORTS IS TOTALLY UNCOOL (unless Greg got a cut of some of the DVD sales).
