(Spoiler) Deaf Boy

In the end of the film, Seymour interacts with Ethan's wife and their son, I guess. Why is this boy deaf? Seymour's character was deaf and dumb, and Ethan's character was just mentally challenged. I didn't understand, because I thought the point of the robbery was to get cash to operate in vitro to genetically favor the unborn child.

The boy is not deaf. He learned signing from TV, as his mom explained to Seymour.

reply

Yea the operation actually paid off because the kid was able to learn so fast amongst many things and sign language was one of them...he was just simply communicating with the old man in a way he would understand a lot faster.

reply

Yes, the operation was a success & Seymour's character was not dumb, he was a deaf mute.

reply

No. But, your response, however, IS dumb.

reply

As was stated, the boy is not deaf. The mom explains that he picks up things fast. A hint that he is smarter than normal. Second he is not "deaf and dumb" as you put it. He was described as "deaf and mute".
