I am currently watching the movie and 25 minutes in I wanted to shoot the writers of this movie. This, I must tell you, is coming from a huge huge fan of ska and reggae music. To any other writers out there, when you are making a movie, do some f-ing research!

Scene: Sa5m & Will are sitting against lockers and The Aggrolites (a reggae band) are playing.

1. Will moves a headphone to Sa5m's ear and says "It's Ska". (IT'S NOT SKA, IT'S REGGAE! I am completely surprised that The Aggrolites let this happen as they are very big on letting everyone know that they play reggae and not ska.)

2. Sa5m says "I like it. It's like reggae but they made it their own." NOOOOOOO Reggae is like Ska and they made it their own. Ska came first!

I wanted to see this movie just because of the inclusion of Ska & Reggae in the movie and 25 minutes in I am disappointed by *beep* researching.

About the first point, I thought was quite obvious the song was put in later, especially since Will's head-nodding didn't really match the music. I understand your complaint though, even if it didn't bother me.

About your second point, Sa5m obviously wasn't familiar with Ska but knew about Reggae, so it's obvious that to her Ska sounds like Reggae but made it their own (because she was familiar with Reggae first). You can't blame the writer for having an unknowing character not know all. He could have included a line where Will responded "Actually, Reggae took from Ska" but the scene wasn't meant to give a history of Ska/Reggae.

"You see Republicans and Liberals
I see wolves and wolves in sheep’s clothing"

dear cjjr82, thank you for carribean music appreciation 101; however, i believe that you are taking this just a bit far. let me explain:

1. oops. it sounds like you caught them there. aha. go get em, tiger.

2. "ska came first!" okay, but it wasn't until 3rd wave that, no doubt, the beauty of ska filtered into our lame american culture while most of us bumpkins associate reggae with the likes of bob marley and peter tosh. would it not be odd for a 14 (15?) year old jersey girl to immediately recognize the nuance you just explained.

thanks for the education, but to my untrained ear, i clearly thought i heard a ska band, and i did not have a clue that ska could have come before reggae.

you're not by chance one of those "the book was better" types are you?

Please don't hate me. It seems like many of you liked the film and I respect that. I'm not a hater or a troll or whatever but I didn't like the movie, execution-wise. I liked the concept how it showed the greatest songs of all time and a lot of artistic thingamabob but I think it was trying really hard to a point that it seemed like a teeny bobby movie. The acting was just off especially the leads but I like Lisa Kudrow's spontaneity. The video presentation was kind of sweet too, the last song was okay and the "numb3r nam3 thing" was pretty cute. Apart from that, everything was badly executed. No offense to those who liked it but this is just a polite and honest opinion, I hope you respect it.

that's interesting, alot of ppl liked it because of the execution.

I've watched this movie so many times and it's hard to say. 90% of the dialogue is total cringe. But I still love it.
