No it's called retarded. I think I would be more apt to like this movie if Vanessa Hudgens wasn't in it. She's trying so hard to be the 'cool' and 'off-beat' and 'odd' girl, but she fails miserably, at least from what I see. Drinking from a twizzler? Ooh that's REAL original.

'Serious' is her only flavour. If she were in the film it would have been one of the worse casting decisions ever made. Maybe for the role of 'Sa5m', but I don't think she could muster up the charisma or enthusiasm for feel good movies of this type. The chirpiest I've ever seen her was in S1m0ne.

In anycase she wouldn't be caught dead in such a film, she thinks she's too good. Just notice the typical character she plays in films.

Honestly, Wood is certainly too good for movie like this. And, actually, she's versatile enough to "muster up the charisma or enthusiasm for feel-good movies of this type". But that doesn't mean it's OK for her to be in it. It'd be like casting a versatile actor like DiCaprio in a freakin' Apatow movie.

Seeing is not believing; it's the other way around.

Have you even seen the movie? Thats an absurd thing to say. The characters in the film are very fleshed out and Vanessa Hudgens of all people plays a monotone loner! (I personally don't think she could pull off Charlotte, not because she is 'too good' but because she's not good enough)

Wood isn't 'too good' for this movie. She just thinks she's too good, thats the point. But like I said, she looks down on teenagers, and High School Musical type movies. She's never starred in something like them and she never will, and that includes comedy romances. You'd think she'd learn a little irony, considering she's dating one of the biggest theatre geeks in music - Marilyn Manson.

And lastly why are you throwing the word 'versatile' like you know what it means. Versatility as an actor involves playing different characters types. Leonardo Dicaprio and Evan Rachel Wood are NOT versatile actors, both have never starred in a comedy or a comedy romance. They are fine actors yes, but their range is limited, and that is because they only take certain types of roles. Thats the truth. If they enjoy playing similiar roles again and again, good for them. Alot of actors get bored and like a variety of work.

Um, when I say Wood is too good for this movie, I mean she's too talented to be in this. That's why you have people like Vanessa Hudgens and Aly Michalka in the movie. I don't blame Evan if she thinks she's too good, because, compared to a lot of actresses of her generation, including the ones mentioned above, she IS too good. And I DO know what the word "versatile" means. Evan IS versatile. You say she isn't because you haven't seen her in comedic roles. You probably haven't seen "Little Secrets" which is a comedic/family movie, and Evan was great in it. What about "Whatever Works"? Another comedic role for Evan, and she nailed it - like she has with her other performances.

And as for Leo, how can you say he is not versatile? What role can't Leo play? I mean, his work has been a combination of a very wide variety of roles. Wasn't he in the TV show "Growing Pains"? Isn't that a comedy?

So, yes, both Evan and Leo ARE versatile actors. Unlike you, I have seen everything they have been in, so I'm pretty sure, given the subject matter, I'm not speaking out of ignorance.

I've seen "Little Secrets' and it is not a comedy. Its a family/kids/drama.

I agree Evan and Leo may have been versatile actors in the past, (probably out of need), but now that they have the choice they are drawn to a very specific set of roles. You've convinced me that they could pull it off, if they chose to star in these films. (Although I still think the current cast is better suited) What I'm saying is they are a little prejudiced and will not take those types of roles. They are no Angelina Jolie or Reese Witherspoon for example, who have have done and continue to do a wide variety of characters in a wide variety of genre movies.

I'm just stating the facts. Leonardo has already been started to be heckled as the "scowl master". For his roles in The Departed, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies and soon 'Inception and 'Shutter Island', hopefully he proves me wrong but thats a long streak of similiar roles, right there. Evan fares better but I strongly suspect only because she is younger, get ready to see the same old same old from her in the future.

Maybe if Vanessa Hudgens could act, she wouldn't have to be in such nonsense movies. Are you all that far removed from high school? I remember all sorts of kids doing strange and often stupid and uncreative things to set themselves apart and convince everyone that they where "unique". High School kids do stupid things all the time... they are kids! Why waste time trying to dissect something like what runs through a seventeen year old's mind? She did it cuz she thought it was cool, and I suspect we are meant to see it as foolish.

i find it kinda funny how everyone is making a big deal out of a name from a movie
it was the producers choice to choose a name
Vanessa Hudgens had nothing to do with the name and the way she presented it with "the 5 is silent" plus the way she's acting in the movie is the way the Directer wants her to act so she has no choice in that either
So stop fussing, people are allowed to be unique if they want to be unique
if someone really wanted to put a silent 5 in their name, let them do it
grow up and get a life, and don't criticize the way some things are

It doesn't matter whether she picked the name or not. The name Sa5m lets us know that this movie will be filled with cliches. And Vanessa Hudgens I'm sure could get her character's name changed if she really wanted. Plus she was the one to choose to be in the movie with her character's stupid name.

Clearly if I wanted to be famous, I would try and get into acting. But I am not interested, simple as that. Besides, I never claimed that I COULD become famous, and if I did, then you would have the right to call me jealous.

Who's criticizing the actress? The point is that the screenwriter tried WAY too hard to be quirky and unique. Since Juno was a big hit, now every person who can make a random joke (whether it's funny or not) thinks they're some sort of offbeat comedic genius, who's just SO DIFFERENT, in such a different way, and they just aren't.

I mean I'm not saying it's the end of the world, it's not that big of a deal, but it's annoying. And what will be even more annoying will be the teenagers abound who will be quoting this movie left and right, no doubt to express how unique they are too!

I'm criticizing the actress, as well as the script. Vanessa Hudgens sucks majorly. I dont know why people keep putting her in movies that require her to sing when she cant, and for that matter, I dont know why people keep putting her in movies that require her to act, because she cant do that either. In person, like at awards shows and in interviews and such, she comes off as snotty and like she thinks she's better than everyone else for no good reason. She will move on to porn soon and be in her rightful place.
