Why did Will's mom hate Charlotte?

Why did she dislike Charlotte when she thought she was dating Will?

reply

I got the vibes that it was because it was always girls like Charlotte who bullied and hurt Will in his previous school ...I really couldn't see any other reason why she would dislike Charlotte

I think hate is a tad strong word to use. I think its more accurate to say that Will's mother did not trust Charlotte.

Will & his mom were in a very close relationship. Before the move, she was basically his only friend.

At the new school, Charlotte comes in very aggressively and assertively to dominate Will's life. And while Will was happy to have the attention of a very attractive, popular, cool girl, his mom was very worried about Charlotte's intentions. In addition, Will's lack of communication about the events in his life caused his mother additional concern.

Additionally, Charlotte crawling in through Will's bedroom window after being seen, by the mother, kissing Will, further weakens the mother's level of trust in Charlotte.

Because she is very over-protective of her son. When someone actually trys to talk to him for once, she immediately can not trust them because in the past they've always hurt Will.

She was right not to trust Charlotte- although Charlotte came good in the end

Because Charlotte is also an older girl hanging out with a younger boy. Flip the genders and no one would be questioning it. And it's possible that Karen might have heard stories of what Charlotte was like when she was with Ben - she herself admits she wasn't the best person. Karen just doesn't want to see her son get used and abused.

His mum was so used to Will being bullied and unlike she couldn't quite believe someone would want to hang out with him. So immediately she was wary.
