Yeah, this is what the world needs, ANOTHER Mob B MOVIE about John Gotti with Joey Lawrence. Come on give me a break. I know someone who worked on it and they said this is just another piece of *beep* dime a dozen mob movie. Thanks Hollywood.

Well, keep in mind that this was written and narrated by the real Salvatore Polisi, who appears at the end, so we shouldn't be so quick to judge this as some Hollywood mob-mill movie.
I thought it wasn't bad, actually. It started out like it was going to be something awful (esp. the fake rape scene), but then I saw that the director was really trying to show a day in the life of these wise guys, right before a heist. It was quite detailed, and developed each character, and even had some interesting nuance (such as Gotti's speech about the underdogs, or Foxy's struggle to support his college-bound sister and keep her away from mob guys, for which he paid the price).
Sometimes mob movies focus too much on the seriousness of "getting whacked", with dour expressions from the oh-so-serious capos and bosses. But in reality, it's not this way--there's a lot of partying, sleeping around, and loose behavior and macho camaraderie, combined with money-making crimes, from what I've read of the real Italian mob, and this movie is closer to the real truth, actually, than what we'd like to believe.
And the acting was not bad, either, esp. Gotti's character.
Had little hope for this movie when I started watching it, but I really enjoyed the movie.
The pace was great, the casting was good, and it wasn't a long movie.
Short Cut, Draw Blood
I just saw this movie and it was just another b movie with bad 3rd rate acting or atleast a mis-cast movie from the begining to the end with a few exceptions from the older cast. The younger cast didnt play convincingly enough to really make me fear them and in that lies a huge weakness in a movie about gangsters. You might have some interest/sympathy for the characters but ultimately there got to be a certain ammount of fear for them. Despite some hainous acts in the movie from the chrarcters they easily seemed cheesy and eventhough the script for the movie was made by former mobster polisi it was a letdown to Watch this movie. I like lots of gangster movies but i didnt Watch this one with the highest degree of expectations so its not that im extremely disapointed but i do rate this movie below average at 3.0.
shareI don't really blame the actors, I thought most of them did OK (just about) given that the production values & script were weak. I mean when Tommy guns down the made guy that did almost seem like college movie stuff. I actually laughed it looked so bad. I recently watched the 1997 remake of 12 Angry Men and it was really good, with many stirring performances. Granted most of the actors were top grade (Lemmon, Scott, Gandolfini, etc) but still.... this was a TV movie basically set in 1 room! So why can't a film like Sinatra Club come even close to matching it?
sharewell i think you clarified it yourself with your examples of bad script and eventhough i dont think i have seen the movie you mentioned that movie had great actors in it from what i can see. besides that the term "college movie stuff" is in my opinion not in any way to harsh of a description. i seldomly judge a movie under 5 and this movie was an absolute travesty from what i remember and i wont see it Again. I was so fortunate that i just got it for free but hopefully at one point one of my friends will bite the hook and take it with them when offered with a warning if not it will end up in the trashcan where it belongs. but i have to disagree on the actors they should for most of them only do lousy produced soap operas or sub par sit-coms which i have no doubt is where theyr acting is usually utilized.
