Is anybody else who has seen this film struck by the similarities between it and ABC's "Pushing Daisies"? Famous narrator, morbid humor, the distinct visual style... not to mention that Chuck's a beekeeper in "Daisies." It may be pure coincidence but it's kind of bizarre!
shareI haven't seen "Bees" yet but I am a fan of "Pushing Daisies"...which owes a stylistic debt to a lot of Tim Burton's work, particularly Edward Scisssorhands and Big Fish. It's distinctive enough not to be derivative though...
"Bees" is based on a children's book published in 2002. Since the book and film were created by the same person (Paul McDermott), I assume they're stylistically alike and that the similarity to "Daisies" (which began airing on TV this fall) is coincidental. But I respect any sort of well-made, whimsical surrealism that doesn't get too gooey. There isn't enough of that around. :) BTW I'm envious you've seen "Bees"; so far it's only played film festivals, none near where I live.
