Bees and Daisies?

Is anybody else who has seen this film struck by the similarities between it and ABC's "Pushing Daisies"? Famous narrator, morbid humor, the distinct visual style... not to mention that Chuck's a beekeeper in "Daisies." It may be pure coincidence but it's kind of bizarre!

I haven't seen "Bees" yet but I am a fan of "Pushing Daisies"...which owes a stylistic debt to a lot of Tim Burton's work, particularly Edward Scisssorhands and Big Fish. It's distinctive enough not to be derivative though...

"Bees" is based on a children's book published in 2002. Since the book and film were created by the same person (Paul McDermott), I assume they're stylistically alike and that the similarity to "Daisies" (which began airing on TV this fall) is coincidental. But I respect any sort of well-made, whimsical surrealism that doesn't get too gooey. There isn't enough of that around. :) BTW I'm envious you've seen "Bees"; so far it's only played film festivals, none near where I live.
