I find it very hard to believe that someone like Tracy left Erik to be with a shallow ex-boyfriend like Trent. Why did they write her out anyway? Was the actress unavailable?

probably because their story was over i guess. beta house coulda worked with her as his GF again, but i guess they wanted to give eric the "fresh start" that a lot of other college movies like to portray

I think they didnt want to deal with a long distance girlfriend plotline, so they just wrote her out.

I think the line were they say that she ran off with Trent was hilarious. One line and they got rid of her entire plotline from the last movie and put her with the ex-boyfriend that they had a spent a whole movie trashtalking.
