What is the Worst Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie in existance?

What movie on the Sci-Fi channel do you think is the worst of them all?

Last viewed: Spider Man 3 (6/10)

I'd probably have to say this. I guess the best one would be a three way tie between : House of the Dead 2 / Manticore / Frankenfish

King of the Death Proof board.

Are you insane Orlando!? House of Dead 2 was amazing, especially because Emmanuelle Vaugier, one of the best actresses in history. All those movies you listed are awesome and worth watching. All those I've given a 10. They're good movies. All the sci-fi pictures originals are awesome.

I personally LOVE Frankenfish. It's SO cheesy you HAVE to love it. Plus the fish were pretty cool looking . The best line: "Oh, my God! The house shot her!"

I hated Manticore and Gryphon. Some of the *worst* CGI effects I have ever seen.
Poor Larry Drake and Amber Benson <shakes head>

I thought Basilisk: The Serpent King was silly fun. I doubt the creators were going for genuine horror there, more like a campy Monster movie from the 70's.

reply

Yea Basilisk was similiar to Mammoth. Both good movies nevertheless.

reply

Oh, ye Gods! So many choices, so little time! I think, collectively, that the "Natural Disasters" series goes high on the list, with honors going to "Magma: Volcanic Disaster". They are running low on themes; they have the mythological beasts ("Cerberus", "Manticore", "Basilisk", "Hydra" - what's next?), the natural disasters, prehistoric monsters ("Pterodactyl", "Mammoth", "Sabretooth" - when will we have "Eohippus"?). Basically, Sci-Fi Channel movies give a whole new meaning to "killing time".

We could legitimately question whether a half-assed sequel is an "original" movie, considering that most of them were probably acquired post-production, but, then, Sci-Fi is shameless in what they label "original". Hint: "Sliders" and "Stargate SG-1" were both billed as "original" despite the fact that they were both acquired from other networks.

However, my A-1, top-of-the-heap, bottom-of-the-pit absolute zenith of bad and nadir of good (so far [after all, this is Sci-Fi Channel]) is "Grendel". I am intimately familiar with Beowulf, having learned Old English so I could read it in the original language, and there was SO much that is SO wrong about the movie that I can not even begin to list them. Grendel's mother should stalk down Ron Fernandez (the screenwriter) and tear him limb from limb for desecrating the English-speaking world's first epic.

What I'd really like to see is a film version of John Gardner's novel "Grendel", which is a retelling of "Beowulf" from the monster's point of view.

The five words I most dread: "A Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie".

PostScript: To give them credit, Sci-Fi has done some good presentations, mostly in series and mini-series. "Dune", despite its faults, was a vast improvement over the 1984 Lynch film, and "Battlestar Galactica" makes the concept look like a good idea, something Glen Larson's fat ego couldn't accomplish. But. Enough.

The only ones i've liked

Crocodile 2 (plane crash)
Curse of the Komodo
Frankenfish
Snakehead Terror
and Centipede i enjoyed but I can't get over the giant centipedes..I mean really they've run out of things to make bigger

The worst- Cobra vs Komodo, Lake Placid 2,
Sabretooth: the switching between Puppet and CGI ruined this one
I'm sure there's more I just can't think of

I only watch the monster ones really

reply

lol the puppet in Sabretooth was awesome. It was good though. I gave that movie a 10.

And how could you not like Cobra vs Komodo? I loved that movie. It was an amazing battle between the both. I gave it another 10 also because of the hot ladies.

But Lake Place 2? This movie was way better than part 1. How could you not like it? It was hilarious and not meant to be taken to seriously. Plus I was very impressed with the CGI in this one. IT was more realistic than the film Raptor Island.

reply

Exactly...Lake Placid 2 was obviously tongue in cheek and just made to be your classic entertaining/funny/bad horror film.

And the CGI Croc?? Hahah come on how could you not like it.

reply

LOL... that's like trying to discuss which animal's excrement smells the worst!

reply

Raptor Island is by far the worst Sci-Fi original.

reply

That is impossible. I saw that movie and liked it. I gave it a 10 because the raptors looked awesome. But I agree it could have been better. However, Raptor Island 2 is soon to debut on the sci-fi channel. I can expect RI2 to redeem RI1.

That is partially true. Sci-Fi does bring in the hottest women to act. The women in the movies look absolutely gorgeous. 5 out of 10 votes I give for any movie go to the women. So if the movie has good women I give it a 5. The other 5 votes is based on the movie itself and many other things.

SS doomtrooper

reply

Wow, I missed out on this whole topic @_@

Just to add, I actually met the actor from the Painkiller Jane series. I went down to Florida once on vacation and, apparently, she owns a hotel there, or at least she escorts the people to their rooms. Either that or my dad gave me bull.

As for the worst Sci-Fi movie, I will probably have to go with Lake Placid 2. For the best, I would have to go with the one where those people in that airplane got stuck in different dimensions. The best part of that movie was when those flying-bowling balls with teeth were trying to eat that airport. God, that was so awesome :D

reply

Just so many to choose from. Certainly Raptor Island and anything with Komodo in the title were scraping the bottom of the barrel, though the wretchedness of any of their earthquake movies certainly vie for worst as well.

And the movie with the flying "bowling balls" was Stephen King's Langoliers.

reply

Whoa whoa hold it hold it. You are not talking about Raptor Island with Lorenzon Lamas are you? Because that movie was so fun to watch. And Komodo? Are you serious? Those movies, "Komodo" and "Komodo vs Cobra" were awesome and certainly some of my favourites. Those are the kind of movies you can watch over and brag to everyone because they're the best, not like that crap from hollywood spilling onto the theatres. These Sci-Fi originals are the best entertainment.

reply

Would you give them a 10?

reply

lol what? Of course I did. You could check my vote history to confirm it lol.

reply

yup ss doomtrooper is my coice for worse movie ever. with manitcore being a close second although i havent seen lake placid 2

reply

I cant make up my mind on the worst movies so i made a small list

5 Worst Scifi originals

1.Mansquito
2.Gryphon
3.Hammerhead Shark Frenzy
4.Pterodactyl
5.Snake King

5 Worst movies shown on the Scifi channel that arent scifi originals

1.Carnosaur Trilogy
2.Raptor
3.Shark Attack 3 Megaladon
4.Dinocroc
5.Blood Surf

reply

You cannot possibly be serious Lincoln. Mansquito was a megahit when it premiered on Sci-fi channel. It took a complete unorthodox approach to usual Sci-Fi technique. They went all out on that movie.

And Shark Attack 3? Are you kidding me? That movie was a masterpiece. Just because the Shark was enlarged unrealistically doesn't mean the movie was not good. I believe the acting saved the movie. It was one of the reasons I enjoyed watching it. It is certainly not one of the worst movies.

reply

i thought mansquito was bad if u think its good thats fine
i am only 14 so u might be able to tell bad movies from good movies better than me
Im not very good at telling good acting from bad
but i thought shark attck 3 was bad

I luv the scifi channel i cant wait for scifi saturday
I luv all the movies they show
but of all the movies theyve shown those 10 were the ones worst in my opinion
But if shark attack 3 or mansquito or any of those 10 movies comes on again ( which they will of course) I'll still watch them

reply

Sabertooth was real awful, except for the scnene with the hot chick in her bra and underwear. She later gets bit in the head and dragged off. Terrible nonetheless.

reply

Nah Sabertooth was a really fun movie. The hunter guy was realistic, but retarded because he was being misled all the way hahaha.

reply

Originals or premieres all together... Sabretooth and Shark Attack 3 take the cake with me. Some close runners up for absolutely the most laughable are:
Webs (Greico's monumental masterpiece)
Any of the one snake vs. another snake (too many to name individually)
Hammerhead: Shark Frenzy (for the suggestion of a mutant hammerhead raping)
Anonymous Rex (Dinosaurs disguised as humans walking amongst us, spectacular).

Some of the actual decent ones:
Cube 2
Dog Soldiers
Beyond Re-Animator

However, while they are all bad, I don't actually dislike any of them. In fact they are so bad that I admittedly enjoy them even if I've seen the movie already. To be honest, I wish I had every one of them in a DVD collection so I could watch whenever bored. They will always be entertaining. Second, wasn't there a movie about killer bees attacking a family who subsequently barricades themselves in their house? Does anyone remember this? Finally here's two links in support of why Shark Attack 3 would be the top contender out of them all.

-For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then shall I know even as also I was known-

reply

Some of the actual decent ones:
Cube 2

Cube 2 was a Sci-Fi original? Man, that movie rocked! I just happened to see that one first (before Cube Zero and that other one).

reply
