'All beaches in Europe are topless'

I know this movie isn't to be taken seriously but I've heard similar comments in dozens of American movies, do Americans really think european men wear speedo's and women topless in a thong? I hate to burst the bubble but majority of men wear shorts and women wear standard two piece bikini.
