Flash/Barry was my favorite character in the movie

Out of all of the squad, he was the goofiest and the most fun. He was the only one who actually had some one-liners, wisecracks and personality to actually be engaging and memorable. Out of all of the the characters, he was funny and witty. Anyone else agrees?

reply

I agree! My friends thought he was annoying, a forced comic relief character. I thought he was funny, but more importantly, he showed the most character development.

reply

Agreed.

he is in the Justice League....

.... because he needs friends....

reply

Hahahaha! I liked that line, too.

reply

I don't think TA liked that line.

reply

See....I think, like a lot of the character beats in this movie, there was something more to this. It's like they had a germ of a real idea, a true character arc/moment and then just couldn't execute it.

He joined the team because he needs friends? Well...yeah. He's a guy with super powers on a world with few people with powers. He can't really relate to ordinary guys and they can't relate to him at all. So, yeah....he is lonely because of his powers.

He doesn't get brunch? Okay, he knows what brunch is. It's just that to him, the world already moves too slowly and the idea of waiting on line to get a meal and making an occasion out of it is unfathomable. Peter David did a whole arc like this with quicksilver in X-Factor and it was brilliant. Here it comes off as a pun.

I admit it does almost seem that the writers actively AVOIDED making these points and others and diverted into pun town, but the germs WERE there.

More the pity because this could've been good in the hands of a competent creative team.

the convo he has with Batman could be so much better executed. Saying that he is in it because he needs friends as a reason for joining a team who is being assembled to kick an invading alien army... just sounds wrong. We had no establishing shots of him being lonely at all; it comes out of the blue just to rush the assembling and nothing else.

reply

Agreed. An interesting idea handled in a ham handed fashion

reply

i agree. him and wonderwoman were the best and ironically i don't like either as a comic book character.

reply

He makes me cringe--not laugh.

reply

yep.

As a kid the Flash (Barry Allen complete with costume hiding ring) was a childhood favorite. I totally realize there are so many re-incarnations of him but this one was a big let down. The only saving factor is that he has room to grow as a character. Not sure I will be along for his Hero's journey as it will no doubt be rushed with Flashpoint.

reply

Cyborg looked and sounded the best, he stole the show in my opinion.

reply

Kinda sounds like Flash was was Justice League's answer to Spider-Man in Civil War (which was Avengers 2.5)
