OT: Does anybody like Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy?...

When she was around for two movies, that is? I mean, I like her better than Sam Raimi's Mary Jane Watson for all the reasons that Captain Logan described in his Amazing Spider-Man 1 review on Superhero Rewind. And he described Marc Webb's Gwen Stacy being on the other of the galaxy when compared to Sam Raimi's MJ in terms of temperament but if you don't believe me then watch Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 1 back-to-back and compared them?

Yea I liked her. Big mistake to kill her off. Or cut Shailene Woodley from the final product. They could have honestly cut out Harry Osborn entirely and just kept Electro as stupid as he was.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

i think she was good, but the films around her (and Garfield) didn't help them one bit.

She was basically everything Kirsten Dunst wasn't. Likable, funny, charming and had actual chemistry with Spider-Man. But then they killed her in the second movie.

"How come nobody's ever tried to be a superhero?" - Dave Lizewski, 2010.

reply

Nope, didn't like her in the part at all.

reply

I suppose you like shallow and petty girls like Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane?

reply

Gwen and Peter's chemistry was possibly the best of any two love interests in any CBM. they really were fantastic. Emma's just terrific.

The problem is ASM II was messy and made the mistake (AGAIN!) of cramming too many villains in one movie.

It's amazing too, because it Fox, Giamatti, and Dane Dehan are really good actors. The movie was a mess though.

Yes.

Yes, what?

Yes, please?

I loved her.

reply

Yes and No. While I liked Stone's performance, I HATED how they written Gwen in those movies. She has literally no flaws, her and Peter's relationship has no flaws either. They basically saw the backlash Mary Jane got in the Raimi sequels and they said "screw telling an interesting story, let's make Peter/Gwen just lovey dovey and the fans will mask this as great writing." For a reboot that fanboys love to claim that is closer to the comics than the Raimi movies were, they sure as hell ignored the comics when it came to Gwen's character.

reply

Yea, I had the problem too. Their relationship bored me because they were too sickeningly sweet. That and Peter broke his promise to Gwen's dying dad. I suppose his word means nothing to anyone.

I like Emma Stone in pretty much anything. I think she's one of the best actresses in Hollywood today.

That being said, I think the Gwen they gave her could have been better. She did a great job with the way the part was written, but it seems that the part suffered from the way the rest of the movie was written around her as a character, not really incorporating her as part of the story. That's just my take on it, really.
