Not the place to discuss your beliefs...

Imdb is really not the place to discuss your religious or non-religious beliefs. That's just too big a discussion (or "debate") to have here. Just discuss the movie, for heaven's sake!! that is, if you believe in heaven...!

There will always be disagreement on creation/evolution; whether or not the movie was historically accurate has no bearing on that disagreement because people are going to believe based on a plethora of information--not just some movie. Personally I liked how the movie portrayed Darwin as intelligent, inquisitive, and introspective about our world, versus one of the "sheeple" who will blindly believe anything with the religious majority. He was brave and driven to further explore and present his findings--rather than the "child of Satan" who dared to refute God by writing that "abomination" of a book (at least this is what I was raised to believe in the deep South (Bible belt). I'm a Christian, but extremists on any side should be handled with serious skepticism.

More importantly was showing him as a family man who suffered divided loyalties between his beliefs and his wife's. Also the contrast between his 'science' self and the grief-stricken man.

Yes, but people do it anyway! It's happened on this board a couple of times today already.

I think I was nearly ten when I first heard the name Charles Darwin. I didn't find the idea of evolution all that shocking or scandalous, but that could have been because I didn't have a religious upbringing. We did have Religious Instruction at school, but it didn't really sink in. Other kids were taught from the cradle that God made everything, but I wasn't. (When I was about six I was told that hell was just a story made up to frighten people.)

As I said, I didn't find evolution shocking, demeaning or whatever, I found it fascinating. It made the creation story in Genesis seem kind of... well, boring.

Religious faith really does depend on where and when you were born. Maybe if I had been raised as a fundamentalist Christian in the Bible Belt I'd feel differently about evolution. As Darwin said to Annie in Creation: "Suppose the world stopped believing that God had any sort of plan for us." But I've never understood why people need to feel that there's a "plan".

This is a place to discuss MOVIES not Religion. In fact Religion should be banned from these Boards anyplace it is an inappropriate topic. In fact unsolicited opinions about any topic not germane to that particular movie should be edited out by the administrators of these boards.Too many threads are hijacked by idiots who do not have the mental discipline to stay on topic. It makes intelligent discussion impossible. Each thread has a named topic, if you cannot keep your comments in line with that topic you are committing an act of disrespect that would not be tolerated in a face to face conversation without resulting in a physical confrontation or ostracism from the group. If this is to be a community such faux pas must be avoided. Do I need to mention the Troll meets Troll situation that has ruined many a Topic and thread?I believe everyone here thinks their opinions deserve respect. The first step to getting respect is giving respect. To paraphrase Forrest Gump. Smartness is as smartness does.

The "problem" with this film is that one of the key elements of its plot is exactly that : religion vs science. I agree that we should be careful about trolls and that we should discuss in a civilized manner, but as far as films like this are concerned it is simply not possible to completely avoid what you are asking.

If someone started a thread on this board titled "Evolutionist Lies EXPOSED, Praise Jesus", I wonder how many people would feel the need to refute it? If the thread managed to get fewer than 100 replies that would be a miracle in itself. There's no way of knowing if the person who started such a thread even believes in God. You can't take anyone at face value over the internet.
