Jennifer Connelly said it best....

when she said that despite your beliefs and if you believe in darwins theories or not, that a film about him shouldn't be so controversial because he was still a very important figure in history. I saw the film, and cant say that its very offensive, its just his story.

I'm reading the book by Randal Keynes at the moment.

Causing millions/billions to be misled into Hell due to believing by faith in the evolution fairytale that darwin pulled out of his butt based on nothing is indeed reason o'plenty to be controversial.
Hard as it may be for you to believe we atheists know there is no hell or any of that fairy tale BS so points like the one above might as well claim the Easter Bunny won't visit us for acknowledging evolution. Both threats are equally impotent.

Isn't there some nice christian movie site where you can all agree about your idiocy without bothering people who don't care? Go save a soul somewhere else.

greg is the most heinous troll this board has ever seen; he spam trolls this board constantly and makes flametrolling posts against godly persons like myself and KiBL (or anyone who doesn't worship darwin and dawkins and satan, like greg does).

He is just mad at me because I put him on my ignore list many months ago because he was making and refusing to delete satan-worshipping threads. And also because I call him out on and counter his endless spam trolling. And also because he cannot defend darwinism in open discussion, because he knows God's Word destroys the evolution fairytale every time (which is why he has given up trying and hence resorts to endless spamtrolling and flametrolling), so greg is very angry about all that too.

What a moron...

You must have taken him off ignore again then, because you were bumping all his threads down the other week - you could see them and therefore he wasn't on ignore.

Now talk about KIBL - there's a troll. Heterosexual, homophobic, fundamentalist, middle-aged, FEMALE, Mandy. And you, of course Navaros, are attempting in your trolly way, to imitate Mandy. Even if you 'out-do' her, just in terms of persistence, that would be a very shameful 'achievement'.

No, I didn't take him off ignore.

How I realized that greg was the one spamtrolling is from clicking on the [ignored] hyperlink, which then lists greg's name as the spamtroller.

You are a darwinist flametroller, as proven by your quoted text there and 100% of your other posts as well. Stop lying about KiBL, you slandering, stalking, freak.

To your first point I say - Stop Stalking Greg you loony troll!

To your second point:

I don't stalk KIBL, I positively LOVE not having KIBL around. To be stalking her, I'd have to be replying to her or even reading her posts. I'm not. My brain would explode if I tried from sheer frustration. She never sticks around on forums I post on anyway, because she knows I KNOW exactly who she is - and it upsets her trolling.

And you ARE a troll Navaros, you know you are. Why not admit it? Is there really any fun in it if you don't eventually reveal what a big old warty bridge-dweller you really are? If you aren't a troll, I think we've discovered the root of your problem - why you are a Creationist! It's because you have absolutely NO understanding of what constitutes 'proof'! Amazing! Problem solved! You're either a troll, a moron, or at the outside, a bigot - so which is it?! Don't keep us in suspense.

And you know precisely diddly-squat about KIBL aka Mandy. Are you really this upset to discover KIBL is a woman? Are you having some repression issues perhaps? Need a new object for your desire? Oh dear, is that why you're focussing all that aggression on greg?

Yeah, I'm not so sure about Navaros' "troll" status either, Bec. With KiBL, there's an obvious, calculating intelligence behind the bullshít, ergo; troll, but with Nav... sheer, unbridled idiocy belches from pretty much every post he/she makes. I have seen relatively sane posts made by Nav on other forums, but all it takes is some undeniable anti-religious truth to send him/her into a frenzy of gibberish.

That's just the point. Navaros has intelligence when posting on otehr boards but assumes the role of foaming at the mouth fundie when posting about religion. It is a great act of a troll who can keep roles straight.

Unlike the authors of the Christian bible. None of them were contemporaries of Jesus. No one who supposedly witnessed any miracles wrote about them at the time they happened. I don't know about anyone else, but this raises a big red flag as to whether the tales are reliable. Why would historians of the time write plenty about current events (wars, political maneuvering, etc) but write nothing about miracles never before seen by mortal eyes?
The word important usually has a positive connotation
Since when? Things can be important whether they are good or bad, which is the OP's point.

Genghis Khan was important. Whether he was good or bad is subjective and debatable.

Hitler was important. I believe the consensus is that he was a bad man except for some people on the fringe.

Do you have any other words you would like to redefine to your liking?
Thank God I'm an atheist.

Jgrayson au, don't take navaros's stupid comment seriously. He isn't actually a creationist, so there's no need to try and persuade him that evolution by natural selection is true. I'm pretty sure navaros doesn't believe in god either. He hasn't trolled this board in months.

Causing millions/billions to be misled into Hell...

Take your righteous religious bullsh*t and shove it. You choose to worship an imaginary malevolent god; a revengeful, arrogant, insolent god.

Marcus Aurelius said it best:

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. I am not afraid.

reply

[deleted]

Don't worry about them, there's no such thing as Hell, or God for that matter. Oh and Darwin had some pretty good reasons, reasons that haven't been disproved.

reply

Anyone with an IQ higher than 0 doesn't believe in creationism. Even religious people admit creationism is a myth.

On another topic... in the future, people will look at the bible and laugh at us for believing in such fairy tales. Just like we do at those that believed the earth was a cube, and that it was the center of the universe.

In conclusion, religion is the easy answer for those that are poor in spirit. And it's understandable why certain people choose that path.

reply

Anyone with an IQ higher than 0 doesn't believe in creationism. Even religious people admit creationism is a myth.

Wow, nice way of putting all Creationists into one category. I don't think someone with an IQ of 0 could be making B's in Sociology classes (like I did in my last semester of school). And most religious folk I know believe in Creationism.

And, yes, there is controversy because from the description, it would seem that Darwin is being portrayed as some sort of hero for misleading people. It's all about his "struggles".

If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make your signature!

reply

But the movie isn't actually about evolution, or the theory of evolution. It's about Charles Darwin as a man. It's actually mostly about his struggle to overcome the emotional impact of the death of one of his daughters.

As for "important", the word is neutral, it does not have any positive or negative connotation. Darwin is certainly an important historical figure, as was Einstein, as was Hitler.

reply

Is this Navaros character for real?

What a harsh commentary. I am a born-again Christian who believes in evolution. And trust me when I say there are a large number of Christians who believe as I do! So what Navaros is essentially saying is that we are all doomed to hell for believing in evolution? How can anyone with a thinking brain can believe the whole world became populated by 2 people (Adam and Eve).
If we all recall, the Bible states Adam and Eve had only 2 sons. And the bad son (Cain) murdered the good one (Abel). So the whole world was populated by 2 men (Adam and Cain) and one woman (Eve), and part of that would have to be by many levels of incest. Despite of how clean DNA gene pool would have been... it seems too preposterous to be true.

More likely is that Adam and Eve were allegorical, and only the first representatives of early man. And the reason many Christians have accepted evolution as viable and probable cause.

In essence that means we believe the world was populated in the same way science believes it was: baby-makin', from a much larger gene pool than just 2 (or 3 counting Cain) people.

What's wrong with the belief that our Lord, in his infinite wisdom chose not to provide us with all the details?

And my last name is NAVA! Without the 'ros'

"Is this Navaros character for real?"

I'm pretty confident he's not. You should have seen what this board was like a few months ago. If you look at the board for Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed it'll give you a fairly good idea.

@ Navaros:

evolution fairytale

LOL. There's a mountain of evidence supporting evolution. It's testable. It's also the basis of modern medical science.

Where's the evidence that the Bible is true? Oh that's right, there is NONE. It's just a collection of myths written, re-written and translated multiple times by a couple of old, religious zealots intent on controlling people.

Causing millions/billions to be misled into Hell

Lmao. If thinking critically instead of blindly following some book like a bunch of sheeple, means that people go to "Hell", than I'm sure as hell glad that I'm not part of your intolerant, bloodthirsty religion.

And where is this "Hell"? Have you ever thought about that? No, probably not. It's pretty obvious that you aren't capable of thinking for yourself. It merely exists as a device to instill fear in you regarding the so-called "afterlife" and to control you. In short, it's all in your (completely brainwashed) head.

Furthermore, you clearly don't realize that believing in evolution and believing in a "God" aren't exactly mutually exclusive. Many Christians actually accept that evolution did happen. It's entirely possible to believe that a supreme being created life on Earth, but that we still share a common ancestor with the Apes.

For the life of me I don't understand why it's so offensive to you. Whether you like it or not, we all belong to the animal kingdom. Gorillas, orangutans and chimps also exhibit a number of behaviors that are very similar to human behaviors-such as tool using and use of body- and sign language.

But go ahead, believe in talking snakes; that the Earth was created in 6 days and that it's only 9,000 years old-thereby readily ignoring the existence of dinosaurs, million year old fossils and proof of human civilization and artifacts that are dated at at least 30,000 years old.

Idiot.

ETA: I wager you and the Taliban would make fast friends. You have a lot in common with those misogynistic neanderthals.

reply

Navaros - how can I get things across to you? How can I actually change you and make you THINK??? Well it doesn't look good as far as I can see, because the diatribe you spout forth displays that you are well and truly 'under the spell'. If you cant see what I mean in a moment then, I think you're not too well.
A scientist once said-(Was it Sagan?) that the difference between science and religion is that science keeps working whether you believe in it or not.
Darwinism is based upon sound scientific observation and meticulous thinking and reasoning. Something that is beyond religious fanatics. Sorry but that is a fact-the concepts and reasoning that can be shown as proof, are not considered proof, or even good argument to people who are a little simple and live in FEAR of their God, whatever one it happens to be.
And what an unjust God though; if you DARE to believe in anything other than the 'word of God' (Dozens of people over centuries) then, you go to hell.
What about all the poor souls who have never or, HAD never heard of this good word? All the people who lived before the testaments or Koran.
I take it your a Christian? From the deep south maybe?
I vowed not to be offensive but, I'm so sick of reading rubbish written by idiots.
