mediocre, yet somewhat good

well, what can i say about Steel Trap? the film's plot and storyline really brings somewhat of a new story or setting if you will to the horror genre. That was one crucial aspect this film had going for it. i wouldn't compare it to the saw films though because they are completely different. the next thing this film had going for it was the brutality and cleverness of the kills and the cat and mouse throughout the film. finally, the last thing this film had that impressed me was the ending. it was a twist and i don't know if you would call it anything new, because i know some people will figure it out soon.

other than that, this film is very weak. it's the same stuff you see everyday on the shelves at your local moviestore. the characters are very two dimensional, so you feel nothing for it. i wouldn't say any of the actors were good. their lines were delivered very dull and i guess they didn't have much to work with. the script needs to be heavily rewritten. two of the characters complain and moan and fight with each other throughout teh whole film and it just makes you want them to get offed quicker. i've heard some of the dumbest lines throughout this film also. the last thing i just coulnd't get over was just the scariness. the film (not counting the ending) was just so anti-climatic. nothing made me jump and if the music would have been done right, it could have been better.

overall, this film is only getting a 5/10 from me because of the ending and the overall cleverness of the plot and storyline. it would have gotten a 3 if those too would have failed.

i would like to see this movie reshot or maybe have the script rewritten. the film could definitely be heavily redone and might actually be way better. this just seems like a beginning stage. the film was almost there, but not yet. oh well.
