Jennette McCurdy dashes hopes of an iCarly revival return, confirming she quit acting and is "embarrassed" by her past roles

"My experience with acting is, I'm so ashamed of the parts I've done in the past," the 28-year-old McCurdy said on her podcast Empty Inside. "I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed. My friends at 15, they're not like, 'Oh, cool, you're on this Nickelodeon show.' It was embarrassing. And I imagine there's a very different experience to be had with acting if you're proud of your roles, and if you feel fulfilled by them."

The skeevy kids show producer (Dan Schneider) might not be hands on involved with the reboot ("iCarly") at his former network (Nickeloden), but with his best friend (Brian Robbins) running the show, he was able to keep one of the stars (Jennette McCurdy) off it. You know, because she said things about him and didn't try hard enough to stay quiet about the 30 something producer essentially living with the actress when she was 16. So, the big star (Miranda Cosgrove) gets a comeback because she kept her breakdown to herself and didn't broadcast her life to the world and how she continues to struggle in the aftermath of the show. Showrunner Jay Kogen Exits iCarly Revival After Feuding with Miranda Cosgrove

https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/showrunner-jay-kogen-exits-icarly-revival-after-feuding-with-miranda-cosgrove.4434506/

EXCLUSIVE: One of the most anticipated new series on Paramount+, iCarly, is undergoing a behind-the-scenes leadership change.

Jay Kogen has stepped down as executive producer and co-showrunner on the new iteration of the 2007 Nickelodeon comedy. Fellow executive producer/co-showrunner Ali Schouten remains on board; it is unclear whether the series will bring in a new co-showrunner.

According to sources, comedy veteran Kogen and iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove did not click creatively, and those creative differences ultimately led to his departure.

iCarly is described by Paramount+ as a new chapter for the most successful kids’ sitcom of all time, where original cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor join new friends for a look at these characters’ present-day lives, adventures and comedic mishaps.

The original iCarly series, produced by Nickelodeon, ran from 2007-2012. Starring Cosgrove, Trainor, Kress and Jennette McCurdy, it followed a group of best friends creating a webcast while grappling with everyday problems and adventures. During its original run, iCarly became a pop-culture staple and regularly broke viewership records among audiences of all ages. Nickelodeon also is producing the revival for ViacomCBS’ streaming services Paramount+, which officially launches March 4.

Kogen previously worked with Nickelodeon on the comedy series School of Rock and created/executive produced the Nick at Nite series Wendell and Vinnie. He recently served as a consulting producer on another YA sitcom revival for a new streaming platform, Peacock’s Punky Brewster. His credits also include The Simpsons and Frasier.

The showrunner fired from a reboot of a former children's channel was fired because he refused to play the "ship" game. There are two possible "ship" outcomes and he thinks the fans who focus on that shouldn't be. The powers above want the focus to be on that. Maybe, instead they should focus on why they are rebooting the show in the first place and how it screwed so many people over as tweens/teens and they can't function correctly as adults.
