Better than Mordum?

I think so. Mordum was much more brutal, but some parts were just so boring and went on too long. This one was much more watchable, have yet to see the first though

I watched Mordum first online and thought it was jaw droppingly sick, which made me seek out the original, which I found tame and boring in comparison to Mordum.

With this in mind, would I like Penance?

Mordum sucks terribly. This is a masterpiece.

This was the best of the three IMO.
Watching this it felt to me like it was a much better piece of film-making, while Mordum was just over-the-top gore and entertainment.
I really didn't care for the first one that much.

This is my favourite of the AU series, though all three together form somewhat of an "experience".

I'm pleased with the way Penance turned out - it was the ending the series needed. Had they just gone with a further-upped gore quota, it would've been anti-climactic and rather pointless... this tied it all together quite nicely. Best of the three.

how is getting more extreme anti climactic?

I'm a big Mordum fan, I would say for me this is on par with the original.

Although of the three I've seen this one the least.

Mordum does suffer from some pacing (editing) issues but besides that I think it's the current holy grail of sickness (Snuff 102 pending).

Mordum is *beep*. The first August Underground is really good because it's incredibly realistic and because of that it's disturbing. Mordum isn't disturbing at all because it's too unrealistic and over-the-top. Yeah, there's a lot of really *beep* up *beep* in it, but it all feels like the makers told themselves "let's film the most depraved acts of sex and violence ever (even if they're totally unbelievable) and show people how depraved we are" and because of that, it just doesn't feel serious and it's not disturbing. It feels like a gross-out contest. The first one is disgusting and disturbing, Mordum is just disgusting.

MORDUM is my least favorite because it takes the realism of the first and sets it aside in favor of repulsiveness. I just got done watching PENANCE and I think it's the best of the trilogy. It's also the tamest but it still has a big pair of balls. I would compare it to THE DEVIL'S REJECTS in terms of depravity, although maybe a teensy bit worse.
