Death mantra in bathroom?

I watched the scene with the audio commentary on and they didn't really address why he was repeating death over and over in the bathroom just after he first meets heather at the cafe. Does anyone know if Billy explained what he meant by this? I don't necessarily think it's ominous, but I'm curious nonetheless.

I took it as him being mad at himself. I think he knew he was being awkward with her and was angry....Just an opinion.

I also thought it was him being upset with himself. He had just felt really weird when he walked in and was beating himself up. Just my opinion :)
