looks 40 in this (is actually like 35 and he's 25). I find this mildly disturbing. I'm in my twenties and the entire movie, this guy looked 19-20 to me while she looked 40. I felt like vomiting and even after finding out they're only 9 or so years apart, it still confuses me why they used him. Why get a guy who looks so much younger than 25? This was just beyond gross for me, sorry!
shareI think Amy Adams is meant to be younger, probably in her 20s (a young up and coming actress/singer). And I think he's meant to be kinda of a late bloomer (remember he says nothing for 19 years and now 2 in one night), so he looks very young. I don't think she looks 40 in this, she's definitely meant to be younger…if you look at her mannerisms her indecisiveness, etc….Its probably also to highlight who she should be with. Phil seems to young and even more flighty than she is, Nick seems too tyrannical and mature, while Michael seems just right for her age and all.

I don't think she looks 40, I think she is supposed to be a 20-something year old singer who is trying to break into acting... even if that means woo-ing the rather naive Phil to get the part she wants.
I see nothing wrong with the age difference, it's not like she was old enough to be his mother.
Your problems with age differences are really just your own problem.
I estimate that Amy Adams is meant to be 25 at most, rather 18 or 21, and the guy is actually supposed to be 19, it says so in the movie.
