"American Psycho"

WTF?

reply

Same with Random Harvest:

A veteran of World War I marries and settles happily into a tidy, humble life until an accident brings back memories of a former life of wealth and privilege while blocking all recollection of his existence since the war. Thus one man disappears, and another man long missing turns up and claims his vast inheritance. What does his devoted wife, whom he no longer recognizes, do?

Ha, I just saw and thought the exact same thing. I actually do like both this movie & American Psycho, but I see no way that they are related at all!

reply

It's nothing to do with if the films are related, it's a completely automated process. The programme doing the matching does not know anything about the content of the films it is suggesting. All it does it look and see that a lot of people who liked film A (in this case Miss Petigrew) also liked Film B ('psycho in this case) and so it suggests it.

Most of the time this works quite well, but it does seem to have thrown up an anomaly in this case. It is possible someone has been naughty and deliberately entering bad data into the database, by creating a lot of fake accounts and voting for both films.

Yeah, I've had some doozies.

Like "Wizard of Oz" and "Debbie Does Dallas"... not quite, but in the same ball park

This is a movie about transformation. "A Star is Born" (1954)with a similar story line: Esther Blodgett (Judy Garland) is transformed into singing star/actress Vicki Lester.

So, what would you recommend based on your interest in this movie? I am about to watch it. My tastes vary from Amelie to The Gods Must Be Crazy to Guy Ritchie's Snatch.

reply

Have you seen "Big Stone Gap?"

I just watched it last night and loved it.

Other movies that come to mind are "A River Runs through it" and "The legend of Bagger Vance" and maybe even "Meet Joe Black." Not really all the same genre but goo movies worth seeing if you haven't.
