I truly despise the whole idea of region-coding

It's movies like this that make me truly hate the whole idea of region-coded media.

We all do.
Thankfully, this one time I was on the right of side of the region border.

Can someone who runs the big dvd/blu ray encoder in the sky have pity on us mortals, and please read the forums where people talk about their hatred of the Region Codes?

Reading comprehension. You gotta love it!

reply

Just go to ebay, many sellers have region free DVD players for us region 1 people, best thing you'll ever buy.

reply

What I do not understand is why the UK BD is region locked.
If the producers had a half a brain, they'd have made the BD regionfree - US costumers privately importing it would have pushed the movie into profitablility long time ago.

Yeah, either that or ACTUALLY RELEASING THE FERSHLUGGINAH MOVIE IN THE US!!!

region coding is a joke...especially with blu ray

'All for one and one for all! You go first, I've got a bad leg.'

well certain blu rays are region locked. America is region A, so blu rays that say A on the back only play on american players, whilst u.k and europe is B i believe. luckily most films are mulit region so you can buy them from overseas.

although it seems there are more and more locked blu rays coming out.

LOLz He certainly wouldn't.

I wish there was a t-shirt with "What would Solomon Kane do?" available.

reply

IMO we should do away with region codes. they are useless and only stops the information.
A workaround is to buy a dvd player that play all region codes. a simple play all dvd player isnt that expensive.

Region coding exists to censor "undesirable" material. Think of releasing a Pro-Tibet film and making it playable in Chinese players. Or a non propaganda film playable in NK.

reply

So whole world must suffer because some countries are dumb enough to censor the material?
why cant we then make a region for "censored" countries and the rest of the world use same region? why split uncensored world into 5 regions?

No, dimwit. Region coding allows the entertainment industry to release its copyrighted intellectual property when and where it strategically wants to. You dumb bunnies, who actually bleat like sheep and not like bunny rabbits, overlook an inherent barrier that YOUR OWN NATIONS have established: your national broadcast format! Is it NTSC, PAL or SECAM? Forget about regional encoding and multi-region disc players. If the disc is not encoded in your country’s broadcast protocol, your fucking TV CANNOT DISPLAY IT!

Sheesh! Amateurs!

reply

Just go to Amazon and buy a region free dvd player or bluray player, you can get a region free dvd player relatively cheap (I purchased one for $40 or less last year)

For all those who are sick of region coding, I spent 45.00 us for some software called 'Ghost DVD' from a websight www.region-free-dvd.com ; its the best amount of money I ever spent on software. I can now watch ANY dvd from ANY region I want. I got it for the reasons mentioned here and others. I highly encourage you to spend the money; you can either get a download and/or get a cd-rom; well worth it.
