I agree. As with I Am Legend they completely missed the point of the original story in the movie adaptation.

The last line is meaningless without knowing the story, but here you go...

You misunderstand, I am the master.

However, within the context of the story the line is a twist and a big surprise.

No, I'm not going to tell you the surprise, but you can find it in Wikipedia if you wish. The story is called "Farewell to the Master."
