The movie is not "leftist propaganda." If anything, it's somewhere in the middle between right and left, which is the sound and balanced position.

It's true that the film's environmentalist message smacks of the left, but it also has obvious pro-Christian typology that's more attributable to the right: Klaatu is a clear type of Jesus Christ while GORT is analgous of YaHWeH (aka Father God), etc. Not to mention the numerous Biblical references: Noah's Ark, the death plague or swarm, human beings trying to put God in a box literally (a reference to religion in general and, specifically, legalistic strains of Christianity), the sacrificial nature of agape love, etc.

It just kills me that the 'Right' sees conspiracies everywhere. Do you think that anyone involved in this movie sat down and said, "let's make a move that is sympathetic to the liberal cause?". Are you that gone? If the movie sucks, than point it out, but to see conspiracies is just plain silly. You lose all credibility when you start talking gibberish.

I like what Wuchakk had to say. I got he reference to Noah's Ark and the swarm of metalic locust, but didn't really see the connection to Jesus and God.
So, at the end Klaatu takes the evil from the boy and sacrifices himself, dying for our sins.
As far as leftist propaganda, are we to assume that the right wingers are environmentally ignorant?

it is so ironic that if the power in fact did go away... ya know bcoz we had to make that sacrifice, then it would be the leftist democrat liberal who would be the first to die off and be phased-out because of that little "survival of the fittest" factor :) They would nearly all be gone within 5 days of "lights-out"

Ah yes the insane crazy of the right...kind of getting old at this point since a majority of scientists agree that our behavior is having an effect on the planet. But since you moon bats don't agree I guess we just sit aside, keep pumping poison into the air and do nothing and everything will be fine! If it is crazy to care about our planet surviving then I am happy to be called a looney liberal rather then identify myself with a portion of the population who only cares about themselves and deregulation.

Ah yes the insane, self-righteous crazy of the lunatic left...kind of getting old at this point since they make claims that a majority of scientists agree that our behavior is having an effect on the planet when in fact that is an claim unsubstantiated by statistics or the scientists themselves.

In fact, one of the smartest scientists on the planet, Freeman Dyson, has continually decried the slipshod voodoo science used to "prove" global warming.

Oh, I agree we need to not befoul the nest and clean up what we do. But we are doing things cleaner than we have ever done and the Earth is a lot more resilient than you doomcryers give it credit for being.

As for right or left, I turn right at economics and left at sex.

Right, left, who cares? How can anyone find the truth about any issue without turning it into a PHD research effort? The generation that fought WWII did so because they believed, in part, the government saved them from The Great Depression. The generation that protested against Vietnam did so because they learned the government lied to them. They learned the government lied as a result of Watergate too. But through all of those events we had a media that acted like they were looking out for us. Well now we know the media also lies. Any issue that has any money earning entities orbiting it is going to infused with lies, half-truths, and hyperbole. The truth maybe out there but you're going to have to go spelunking to find it.
