Good point. These two films are worlds apart in ways. Or should I say Earths apart.

reply

You say this like it is a bad thing, FCA1975.

Very good sci fi movie. I gave it a lower rating because i wanted to take the kid and slap the snot out of him. Overbearing and held the movie back. He really irritated me. I liked the original one better, but I wanted to slap the snot of of the boy friend too in the 1951 version.

reply

It depends on what you define "sci fi" to be. Many people define it to be science fiction, where the story is scientifically accurate in terms of the capability of it being factual in the future. I see you call it "sci fi" and that ignores the more common definition. This movie is an action-adventure movie with a "sci fi" flavoring.

Actually, the 2008 version is one of my favorite sci-fi flicks. Too bad there's been a moronic fault-finding feeding frenzy with it. I guess most people are unable to mine its spiritual depths. Too bad for them.

reply

Also, see the 1951 version and the 2008 one back-to-back like I just did. There's no comparison; the 2008 version is superior in practically every way.

Such as advertising for McDonalds? Hahahaha!!!

"Cain and Abel will go to Heaven... if they can make it through Hell!"
-Los Hijos Del Topo

reply

Ironically MacDonald's is where one of the film's most moving and spiritual scenes takes place.

reply

I don't get it, none of these films are not made in Finland.

reply

That could actually been funny in a highbrow way if you hadn't *beep* up that sentence by putting "not" in it so let me help you.

Regina Jackson: I want to apologize to you; it seems we got off to a bad start.

I want to apologize to you for making this picture 2008 version

the only way the picture could have been saved is if they stuck with the original written short story novel written by Edmund H. North, based on the short story "Farewell to the Master" (1940) by Harry Bates.

in the novel-the robot is the master..

no-they wanted the easy way out-an overlay of the perfect 1951 version--a mish mash version--this couldve been any titled sc-fi flick with its special fx--weren't they clever-an 8 meter cgi plastic looking gort..no reason to be in the picture--oops said the director--"we better add him in"
kathy bates??--i was waiting for her to crab an axe and do what she good at--john cleese as basil faulty--Keanu Reeves as david carridine in kung fu--a glass of water please..............
production should of been stopped as soon as it started...what are we doing guys???
