Such an abysmal movie

I was bored throughout, no intensity and the story was bland. It was just made up of annoying characters, bad acting, cliches, terrible pacing and editing. The ending sucked as well, you are seriously telling me that the rock found it's way to the dad? Why not just send more rocks just to be sure? Also why was their a message to the mayor that his boat was ready? That never came up again and it was pretty certain that was not the case. I wasn't expecting a great movie just something fun for 90 minutes but this was horrible.

While I didn't enjoy the movie that much, I also know that certain movies are enjoyable for certain ages and not for others. My sons are young and they loved it.

Growing up, I loved some movies that would probably be boring for the average movie watcher: Mio in the Land of Faraway, Little Monsters or King Kong (1976). But since they remind me of my childhood, I'll always have a special place for them.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

The "your ship is ready" line was code to let him know that his extra rations of food were ready for him.

Old thread but I watched this movie recently. You are correct but I cannot blame the OP for not catching this detail. The poor guy was obviously bored out of this skull. When you are slipping into a coma watching a dull movie, it gets easier and easier to miss details like this. I believe that all of his other observations were spot on. Boring movie, dull characters, bad pacing, disappointing (and predictable) ending.

The only good part of the movie was the super fast slug that chased the kids around and then finally gave the mayor his comeuppance.

It wasn't horrible. You have no imagination or sense of adventure of you to think this.

It is a depressing movie that I didn't get to see the end of. Not even the whack characters involved cheered it up for me.
